The broadcasters didn't particularly want to carry a news division but did so to satisfy the "public interest" that the FCC required of a license holder. The networks supplied the stations with news to keep them happy. The networks, in turn, did not run their news divisions as profit centers as they were just complying with the FCC and playing the game so they would not get in trouble. Then in 1987 the "Fairness Doctrine" was dropped. The companies taking over the networks were requiring all divisions to show a profit. So the news divisions were now competing for advertisers and ratings. The days of Walter Cronkite had ended.

I don't know if it applies to Nikon but my Olympus chargers start at a slow rate of blinking then blink faster when the battery nears full charge.

I have a PDF, a photo book I created, that I would like to share. The problem I keep running in to is that the file size, 59.9MB is too large for either my email, AOL, or Dropbox to accept. Is there any way that I can break the PDF into smaller pieces?

Temporarily move some items out of Dropbox to make room for the large file. I assume you just need to have people see it and copy it, so just leave it in there for a week or so then restore your files that you had in Dropbox originally.

Hi everyone,

I've been using an Olympus FE-140 for a long time. Bought a second one on fleabay for cheap. One of its major problems is that the battery compartment doors break on these and you can't lock them. Good used is okay if the seller guarantees it. I'd get something fancier but I'm overwhelmed with auto problems and the cost of parts.

Thanks and be well

If you can get a good price the Canon PowerShot S100 or S110 are fine cameras that will slip into a shirt pocket. They are 12MP and will shoot RAW. I have an S100 sitting here doing nothing that I think I will take out while the weather is nice. I usually shoot Olympus PEN cameras but in the summer they are a bit big to fit into a pocket. When I need to wear a jacket that changes!

Also, Duracell sells a Canon replacement battery, DRC5L, for $22 with free shipping. It's gotten some good reviews.

If you store photos on your iMac you run a high risk of loss. Computer HDs fail. Most photographers will store photos on external drives, several of them.

I keep photos on external discs so I'm relatively safe. I have a late 2015 IMAC 27 inch 5K that I love but the disc died in its sleep last year. I keep a 3TB disc on Time Machine and always do a full backup. I was able to get back in business by copying a backup to an external disc and booting from that. The Apple Store put in a new disc a few days later. I still love my IMAC but it is due for replacement.

You sail along for four years and all of a sudden, disaster! But I was prepared.

Your Minolta scanner is excellent for slides and negatives and if you buy VueScan software from Hamrick you will be able to use that, or any scanner, until it falls apart. VueScan works with any scanner ever made AFAIK, and once you get used to it you will be using the same interface for every scanner you own. No more learning new software every time you have to replace a scanner. I use it with an Epson V700 and a Canon FS4000. The V700 is a great scanner but it does not produce as good a scan as the Canon does on slides and 35mm negs.

I'm with you. I also thought House on Haunted Hill was tremendously overrated and the Tingler was a big disappointment. I was usually in the Eagle Theatre every Saturday to a new horror flick to a packed show. It was a great co-mingling of northside and southside kids. Integration before it really came to the schools with never a problem. We were all there for the show.

I agree! Those two films were just so-so. Looking back I think the best two were This Island Earth and When World's Collide, but I have a soft spot for The Thing and Them!

I was sixteen when The Blob was playing locally. Most of us felt it was a crappy movie as we were all well versed in horror and sci-fi films! It was really just another "teens" flick of so many in the late 1950s. Minus Annette Funicello in this case!

I would also be interested if anyone has a suggestion.

I have digitized film negatives using my Canoscan FS4000 with Vuescan software. Vuescan offer the option of saving the output of the scanner as a DMG file. I see it also offers a choice of saving as a RAW file but I haven't played around with that yet.

I'm by no means a pro, I take a camera out for a walk when i have the time! I rarely use any filters although a CPL is called for if the sky conditions call for it. I recently took a shot of a NYPD vehicle that I thought might be of interest in a Facebook group. The CPL really cut down on the reflected light so it came out better than I had thought at the time. Shear serendipity!

Thanks for the heads-up. The sale is still on but the Pen-F is out of stock; it was listed at $800.00, so you got a good deal.

Sign up for email updates. They let you know when there is a special sale on. Also, you never know if they have a particular item in the refurb bin until you check, so it's always wise to stop in every once in a while.

Too much! I just bought a refurb, on sale, from Olympus for $697 and it looks like it is brand new!
Now they are selling the same thing for $800!
