Ever use one of these? Acquired them some years ago; never have used them....are they considered low-end?

My journey and long standing participation into older film camera's that are regarded as medium format, and still shooting available 120 format film started with an article called "Medium Format in your Pocket, on a web site called ClearImages."

http://www.cleanimages.com/Article-MediumFormatInYourPocket.asp

It covered tons of old folding cameras of various quality and format.... old fixed lens, old bellows and TLR camera's. The article also interviewed Jurgen Kreckel who makes his living rebuilding and refurbishing such cameras.

I bought and used many of these camera's from various sources. Many of the old folders shot 6X6, 6X7, 6X9 CM format. Some shot dual format with format convertors for 645 to 6X9CM.

I had great fun with these cameras and even today can get the 120 roll film developed at WalMart very inexpensively, and scanned at many on line photo processing labs to convert to digital and even do panoramas. I can duplicate film panoramas as if shooting 6X17 and 6X24 CM film cameras.

I suspect both of those cameras you show, if clean and operable, would produce surprising results. I've had great fun with a large number of these old "Medium Format In Your Pocket" oldies from $50 to over $2000.

Many in near mint condition. While this is a copy of a Voigtlander folder from the fifties, this camera was actually re-introduced about a decade ago by Voigtlander/Cosina for contemporary film photography. I had the original Voigtlander 645 version of this camera (3 of them actually) and shot many rolls of 120 film in them. Two of them were refurbed in the 90's by a gentleman named Frank Marshman in Virginia for around $150 for new leather bellow, each. The Original 60's models.

All hearsay until we hear about the device or method that is developed (add to car cost) that reports mileage to either State or Federal agencie to report mileage usage and tax us for road fees accordingly.

OH, and what about the extra cost of devices legislate to be added to all cars to render a motor like sound to warn pedestrians that an electric (soundless) car is bearing down on them. Pedestrians have already lost lives to being run down in crosswalks by silent cars. Bills are already being introduced in many states to add such devices, which will be an increase in car production costs.

The infrastructure for charging facilities will also be passed on to taxpayers.

Oh yes, and do you know also that "mentally deranged Donald Trump" has let us know that Wind farms and Wind Power Towers cause Cancer.

Speaking of Aviation Museums... South down the coast and inland somewhat, located in McMinville Oregon, is the Evergreen Air Museum. Home of the Spruce Goose built and flown a short distance by Howard Hughes. I met the man who headed the project to dismantle the "goose" and bring it up from California some years ago. The original flight of Orville and Wilbur Wright was about the length of the wingspan of the Spruce Goose.

The link you provided is to a pretty good article, and the author (rightfully) concentrates on the positive qualities of the lenses used moreso than the 16mp -vs- 24mp differences. Thanks for including that.

As regards opting for the 'older tech' X-Pro1 over the newer, more expensive X-Pro2 as a way to see if you like it, by all means, do so. The X-Pro1 is extremely capable, using the beautifully optimized Fuji lenses, and is equally so when using (with adapters) other maker's legacy/classic lenses. On my end, though, after seeing the results made with my Pro1, like you, I considered moving 'up' to an X-Pro2, but ultimately went with a (mint/used/considerably less expensive) X-T2. Whichever way you go, I think you'll be quite impressed with any of the Fujis you're considering.

Interesting comment, and I was so close to an X-T2 last week based on this similar thread, also the X-T20.

In reading the comments about today’s topic Eastern Penitentiary tour I was reminded that my wife and I took a tour of the Transallegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston WV last fall. It was an active mental institution (calling it a hospital is simply not appropriate) until, if I remember correctly, 1984. The tour guides, dressed as nurses in white uniforms, lead a two hour tour. Just fascinating. They also offer some days where you pay a separate fee and have the run of the place to photograph. Highly recommended.

On the order of "Don't be afraid of old tech....." and don't fall prey to "Joining the sheep in assuming newer tech is better tech.....", I just found and reach this. I have seen similar references. May have saved me a $1000 in a purchse of the X-Pro1 over the X-Pro2.

Since I probably won't lose any money on a near mint purchase of the X-Pro1, it seems worth the gambit to buy a 1 and use it for a couple of months before getting an X-Pro2. May end up with both.

PS, I am not a believer in backup bodies, but I do believe in retaining a previous generation until I know if both camera's have different pluses to them.

Do not sweat it. Convert the original file to Tiff and automatically it is loseless.

Which would be great if there weren't a number of TiF formats, some of which allow you to choose a "compression ratio"

Tif....Tagged information file... the most highly misunderstood image format for a few decades now. When I started using TIFF or Tif in the late eighties, there were over forty variants of the format. Many of which were complete with compression availability.

Besides that, the files are too big in the TIFF(Tif) format.

I'm pretty sure the Fuji X-T3 with the 18-55 f2.8 is, in fact, a bit larger than the Nikon entry level 3xxx and 5xxx and the collapsible 18-55 Nikon lens. Neither of which I would try to slip in any pocket except my largest coat pockets. And I am a pocket freak... I won't buy a coat without 4 or 6 pockets on the front and a couple more elsewhere.

Even then only 2 of those pockets would only hold one of the flat top Fuji X series. None would hold any of the XT bodies with the "faux prism" and then only with the lens in the other pocket.

I saw my reflection one time in a store window wearing a photo vest. I immediately emptied the pockets at my car and threw the vest in the nearest dumpster. I don't do "Geek" well at all.

The 18-55 f2.8-4 lens is spectacular as noted, but in terms of mirrorless is a largish lens. The new 15-45 lens is nowhere near a competitor, and suffers rather harsh criticism in more than a couple youtube comparison reviews. The primes are a better solution for both size and image quality, but you need to carry two or three to make the range of the 18-55.

I have ruled out the 15-45 completely.

Regarding bodies. None of the XT bodies will ever carry in my pockets. The body that is truly a smaller and almost as feature rich body is the X-E3 which is more rangefinder style flat top deck (no pseudo prism) and 24.3 Mp with both EVF and LCD. Has a control joy stick instead of a D-Pad, combined with a touch screen.

The X-E3 fares well against the X-T2 and X-T3 and is a far cry closer to pocketable (large pockets)

I cannot fathom carrying any camera other than a point and shoot fixed lens in a pocket. Wrist strap maybe. Putting a camera in your pocket shows an unhealthy regard for precision and expensive equipment.

If I traveled as much as some seem to, and wanted the true quality of Fujifilm, I'd be on the Fuji X-E3 and a favored prime, or 18-55 zoom, like a fly on manure.

When I was in High School in Redmond Oregon, our summer days were often filled with "inner tubing" down the river at Cline Falls. That was in 1961... Pre Kayak days. That particular spot was a bit more rugged than some days would allow, and I suspect that shot was slow shutter speed which looks a bit dangerous, but the slope above and below those falls is much gentler.

This stretch of the river is about 15 minutes from town. Eagle Crest Resort is on the river about 5 miles upstream from where this image was shot.

That was on April 1st? Samsung makes ugly cameras. They wow to own the mirrorless market. I also think they are the one that coined the term mirrorless.

Panasonic and Olympus introduced "mirrorless" , both in 2006 as I recall.

Beat Nikon and Canon for truly marketable mirrorless by a decade plus.

I don't have anything on eBay, but have been selling film gear on eBay for over 20 years. On eBay look for:

1) History
2) Positive feed back numbering 100 items or more
3) NO negative feed back or at least 99.5 % positive.

For instance I have history on my current account from 2003 (had accounts before that)
655 items @ 100% positive on the current account.

This is all viewable historical data on registered users (sellers and buyers).

eBay has been in business since the mid 90's.

Paypal transactions from my Paypal account direct to my debit card Visa have been taking less than 5 minutes for a 1% fee for a few months now. From my Paypal to my checking balance, a day. I've been using Paypal for a few years now and never a complaint. I can buy merchandise from a third party for a 3% fee the seller, or gift or buy using a method that allows me to pay the fee. Again, no flaws in the system, and can talk to chat or telephone support within minutes. Instructions are simple and easy to follow. Support is responsive until the problem is resolved. (If you even "really" have a problem)

"Btw, is that louvered hood the jar is on an XKE, a Heally LeMans or???"
Looks like XKE to me.

That's a Jag hood. The bulge is between the louvers on each side. The Healey LeMans that I owned did not have a bulge on the centerline of the hood. Flat between the louvers. I restored many british cars for a number of years and then moved to Alfa. More costly AND more reliable.

Clean lens, clear optics, operates smoothly. Clean aperture blades, snappy function. This is an F.Zuiko which means it has 6 elements. (On OM lenses the letter in front of the word Zuiko signifies the number of elements in the lens.)

This is a nice lens for either film OM camera's or Digital Mirrorless.

Included is a new (yesterday arrival) mirrorless adapter to mount and us the lens on a Fujifilm XF mount.

These lenses work great and focus very well with the Fujifilm Mirrorless focus peaking in any of the Fuji's with FP.

Easy short throw focus for this lens. Also "easy to control" front ring aperture control.

$35 paypal ok and shipped Continental US
