these are for black and white photography the red darkens the sky to near black, the yellow less so ( darkens blues and Cyans)they both lighten yellows/orange and red items in the photograph.
the green filter will lighten grass/leaves , anything green

My photos in that area of China came out exactly the same way. I was able to deal with the issue quite successfully primarily by using levels and increasing contrast and clarity in pp.

Yes I was doing the same thing but using the multiply layer gives a much better feeling of depth on my photo's anyway

To improve photos I have had some success in Photoshop by adding a duplicate layer and in the layer blend mode selecting multiply. Drag the slider back until you get a better image. You may have to up the exposure some too.

WOW, just tried this on some photos tyaken in Halong bay in mist and rain it works a treat thank you!! Jerry brilliant

I always use a filter on my lenses it protects the front element from grit/salt mud etc and gives some protection against impact.
A good filter will not degrade the image formed through it and the lens a cheap one will.
I use a B&W MRC xs pro filter it has a brass casing so will not bind against the camera lens aluminium thread

As Busted shutter points out your camera is cropping the image coming out of the lens giving the illusion of increased focal length

Nikon's DX sensors measure 15.8 x 23.6 mm, while 35mm film and FX digital sensors measure 24 x 36mm. DX sensors are 1.5x smaller than 35mm film.

Agreed I have the carbon Induro great monopods extremely well made it has lasted me several years and survived two African safari's and several trips to the Far East with no trouble

I highly recommend a monopod, much more convenient than a tripod and it can really help keep things steady. I use the Induro carbon fiber ones, but the Induro aluminum ones (link) should work well also, since your load is considerably lighter than mine. :-)

The best tripod is the one you take with you, so go light weight sturdy carbon, I doubt you will find a better mid cost tripod to beat a Benro, unless you have the budget for a RRS or Gitzo.
You will then need a head Acratech are absolutely brilliant, and easy to clean , light and set the tension up to match your gear weight and you do not need any further adjusting just move the camera into position and shoot.
Again RRS are brilliant to but much more expensive

An un-bagged un-protected camera strapped to your hip at X MPH guess it would be covered in bugs like a car windscreen, and boy if you did have an accident it wouldn't do you any good!

No comparison on longevity, quality of results noise, you might as well add a compact with a huge zoom range that would be even lighter, smaller and cheaper, it seems to me a tad pointless

I do it using a Spyder pro but they all work if you do not your photo files will have all sorts on problems colour casts and exposure levels so prints will always disappoint. Even when posted on sites like UHH they will appear diferentlly so it is well worth the tiny effort involved it is very easy to do

Pity we cannot down load it to view larger, it is suprising for an HDR the trees look under exposed and the halo is a bit overpowering. The buildings are also leaning due to your camera angle which could be corrected in PP
