Facebook uses a 2048 px on the longest side for their HQ images. Quality is fine if you set it to 75%. Pixel density doesn't matter - you can export the image at 3 ppi ro 1200 ppi and the image will be the same. What does matter is the 2048 dimension.

Two images below, both exported at 2048 on the longest side, sRGB, 75% quality. One is at 3 ppi and the other at 1200 ppi - can you tell the difference? (hint, the first iamge was exported at 3 ppi from Lightroom).

.

Many thanks , that info is really helpful, the two pics made things a lot clearer . I would not have believed it without seeing it , totally counter intuitive

Personally I set them at 900-600... gives around a 500kb image..good enough for email or instagram or facebook.

Many thanks Steve.

I generally have the longest side set to 1500 px - sometimes 2000 px. Occasionally when I post something for sale, the site will want 2000 px or larger.

Thanks Jerry , glad to see you settled your technical problems .

I am (just) about comfortable exporting images from LR. However , I am lost as to what dimensions and pixel density should be used so that the recipient can opine them on their computers or use them to post on Facebook etc. Anyone know where I can get this info

Many thanks

Try the “ultimate lens hood”. Easy to carry and very effective at cutting out the reflections of glass. I used it in an aquarium, great results.

definitely 70-200 and maybe a 1.4 teleconverter. Either of the other two . Don't get too close to the bears, you might get a great photo but it could be your last.
I just received My new Nikon D500 Last Wed Night. It took me a few hours and a couple of Utube videos before I felt any comfort with it at all. Sat I took it to the Ohio state reformatory [ They filmed The Shawshank Remdemption there and other moives there. For my first time out with camera , I thought it did great. I really love the low light ability of this camera. I welcome all comments on the photo i will post and general advice on using the D500
Congratulations , looks like you had it for years . wish you well .

I live in the UK and travel from time to time around Europe and the USA. I have encountered some issues entering the USA. I now take photos in situ of all the stuff that I travel with . The exif data on the photos will show the location, date and serial number of the stuff. It may not work but is a bit of protection.

Distilled water and q-tips is actually wants it recommended. but who in the heck carries a bottle of distilled water around the little lens wipes fit right in your pocket, and we're great In s pinch.....some say that the alcohol in a lens wipes will degrade the coatings on the lens.

No wonder my camera bag feels heavy

i have had my lens for years what would be the proper method to give them a good cleaning. I keep them covered when not in use but there must be build up on them over the years.

Found that using distilled water and Alcohol (Isopropyl ) applied with cotton buds gives great results. Take care not to saturate the buds. “Angry Photographer” gives a good demo on you tube. Worth watching.

I got a call from one of these once and played along , got about 6 calls all trying to take me further down the line . Eventually I let them have a mouthful and told them to get lost . You would think that would be the end of it but no . I got an abusive call ranting at me because I had wasted their time . They had tried to defraud me and and the cheek to do this . Unreal .

Like quite a few other Hoggers, I have done this cruise with my wife, twice. Wonderfully relaxing and interesting . The cruising stretch near Koblenz is great , castle after castle on the riverbanks , used a 70-200 most of the time . Around the towns etc found 24-70 fine . I could have done with something a bit more versatile as some other have used. Would have been easier.

Cologne is unreal . Research the construction of the Cathedral if you get a chance . Unbelievable history and story but here is a boring Cologne story for you .

My wife and I went ashore at Cologne and did our own thing, having previously been on the organised walks etc. We went in a small hotel for a coffee and the waitress who served us started talking to us. She wondered why we were only in Cologne for just one day . Told her we were on a cruise. Who with ? Viking ? Which boat ? Helvetia . My boyfriend works on that boat! We met when working together on a cruise ship. She then said that she rarely sees him because of his work and was surprised he was in Cologne as she had not heard from him. Straight back to the ship and down to the kitchens . Asked for the guy by name . He came out and got a real shock when we told him a message from his girlfriend. His co-workers were all around him and rolling about laughing, he had finally been caught out .

Facing the Cathedral is a large square which looks down slightly on it. In the square is a famous coffee shop with a large open air area. They serve wonderful pastries and drinks and it "smells" of the past opulence and style of Germany . In particular go downstairs and use the restrooms . I am not going to say any more and leave you to get the surprise we did.

Enjoy your trip.

I suggest that we do not consider a false currency that has no real value . Stick to paper like Sterling or the dollar . This works because we all believe the myth that a thin piece of paper is actually worth something .

Imagine that you are stranded on a dessert island with just your wallet. You are hungry . A monkey comes up to you holding 6 bananas . Being generous you offer it $50 for the fruit. The monkey looks at you in amazement, a piece of paper for six bananas. You must be joking , but then we are smarter than monkeys , aren't we ?

I use a di-gps unit on. my D850 , no problems , very low cost and purchased from Hong Kong. I did accidentally damage a unit . Told them , they said return it and sent me a brand new one at about half price, which was very good of them.
