I totally agree. By the way, I heard Buddy Rich live at Carnegie Hall when I was in school in the 70s. My son has an autographed and numbered pair of his drum sticks in a display on his wall. But the most influential, though not the best, drummer of all time was Gene Krupa. He invented the modern drum kit that everyone uses and set a standard for jazz and big band drummers. He had quite a career too. My Sirius radio is on the 40's station 95 % of the time. I still prefer digital to film, but with music, it's a different story.

Gene Krupa is indeed amazing. There is a video on YouTube of him and Buddy Rich playing together on Sammy Davis Jr's show that is really good.
My father had a Rogers drum kit identical to the one that Mr Rich plays in the video. He-my dad, not Mr. Rich-played with a small combo on the weekends when I was a kid and used to take by brother and I to gigs occasionally. Forty years later, my brother has the kit and still plays it.

...I have a 34 year old son who appreciates the music from the 30s, 40s and 50s, thanks to my interest in this music that I listened to growing up. He works as a teacher in a high school. He has never found one student who knows who Buddy Rich was, (his idol), much less Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Lionel Hampton, Dizzy Gillespie, Frank Sinatra etc. The music of these giants isn't played on the radio any longer except on satellite radio, and Sirius tried to get rid of it just a few years ago. They kept it because of the protests of older listeners, but what happens when they're gone?...

Both my sons not only know of Buddy Rich, et al, they love them. They are 21 and 25 yrs old. I must be raising them right!

Erik, for me this is a simple but powerful impressionistic story! I have certainly been there myself with that one object trying to get the lights and the darks just right. With luck you had a color head and not a set of a slough of separate filters. I hated the separate filters, what a slow process!
I'm actually surprised at just how many had a father with a darkroom. I guess mom was to busy washing clothes and cooking!!! LoL
Thanks
SS

Luckily, we did in fact have a color head. Made the process so much easier. I've also noticed that a lot of photogs here had a father or other family member that had a darkroom when they were kids. Had my dad not been a shutterbug, I wonder if I would be into it today.

For me it was one rusty hinge. When I was about 9 or 10 years old, my dad took a shot of a barn door hinge that was made out of two horseshoes. He had a full darkroom and I spent a lot of time there with him. We spent several days on that one image, dodging, burning, more exposure, less cyan, etc, etc. We finally got it just right and all those hours of work payed off, instilling in me the magic that is our craft. I've been hooked ever since.

I have about a dozen 35mm film cameras I got for free or for very cheap, and I use all of them to some extent. My primary go-to film camera is a Nikon FE.

The FE is my go to as well. I also shoot with a Nikkormat FT2. I have a Pentax K1000 that was given to me a while back, put it haven't tried it out yet. I have a Graflex Graphic View 4x5 that I plan on learning once I am able to move back into my house. We flooded in Aug and are currently rebuilding.

Hi

...Here’s the issue. I might import 300 images into HD1 and only keep 10. The rest will
be “Deleted from disk”. When I delete from(1) I want them to be deleted from(2) as well.
I would like HD(2) to be a real image of HD(1) and not keep those extra 290 images.

Any thoughts on how to do that. Know of any software that will not only add images but remove
them as well to stay true to what is on HD(1).

Thanks for your thoughts

Phil

Phil,
I believe that Syncback Free would do what you're looking for. With it, you can also avoid the second copy step in the LR import process. You can create a profile that will run every day (or as often as you want) to mirror drive 1 to drive 2. That way, any deletions you make on drive 1 will also be removed from drive 2.

I think I'd take my Df, 50mm 1.8, and 70-200 2.8

The "freestanding" Lightroom 6 got updates with some new cameras and bug fixes. Lightroom 2015 CC, the true nirvana with Photoshop, got a new upgraded feature or two.

Any ides what new features are rolling out?

I would disagree that 6 or 8 is plenty. OWC Computing did a study and found that processing (for PS and LR) steadily improves up to 32GB. After that, it still improves, but at a much slower rate. The sweet spot seemed to be 32GB with 16 being pretty good and maybe fine for many and going above 32GB not all that much improvement unless doing lots of video, 3D, etc.

RAM is cheap now. I remember spending $1000 for a 1 MB chip about 25 years ago.

I'd have to agree. My desktop has an i7, ssd and 32gb ram and runs LR and PS excellently. My laptop on the other hand has an i7, ssd but only 8gb ram. It doesn't perform nearly as well running both LR and PS. To the point that I rarely use it for processing photos.

The 50mm f/1.8 lens is better than average, it is very good. I love shooting with my 50mm on my full frame Nikon Df.

The Df and 50mm 1.8 is probably my favorite combination. If I were the OP, I would go with the D610 and 50mm, if she gets serous about photography, she will not go through the "should I upgrade to FF" debate.

I have a Nikon D3300 and with it came a ML-L3 remote. All well and good but I can't get the remote to work.
My objective is to use the ML with the camera set on Bulb for a time exposure. I've tried going through the instruction manual, and using U tube. From what I've seen the ML works with all Nikon models EXCEPT the D3300.

All help appreciated for sure! Bill

The D3300 does not have a bulb mode.

Thanks to all for your prayers. I have two brothers that live in Gatlinburg, and I spent about half my life there. They are both in shelters tonight and are ok but their apartments burned.
