I own many pro Nikon lenses, but I still use the 28-300 for travel and outings with grand kids, and have taken some remarkable shots with it. It will not disappoint for a walkabout lens. Who wants to carry a 70-200 at Disney world?

The obvious, undeniable advantage of the 36 megapixel full frame D800 sensor is the ability to crop, a lot, if needed, or make big prints, and maintain much better resolution. No brainer, and not in dispute. Given of course that the camera is properly used with top quality glass.

I shoot with a D700 and a D800E. I don't need another body at this time. Even so, while the D610 might be a better buy, I love the look and simplicity of th DF. I grew up using a Nikon F2. 16 megapixels with a D4 sensor, with the retro style, in silver, is appealing. I can see myself buying one, even though it is overpriced.

It is called fill flash, and if you know what you are doing, it makes a better shot. Look at the photographers taking shots of stars and the politicians, there is usually a flash mounted on the camera.

If you own full frame, shoot in full frame. Why compromise the quality of your gear?

After visiting the camera store, I order from B&H to avoid sales tax. I minimize the time spent in the store, but a $3000.00 purchase generates a lot of sales tax. That is why so many camera stores , and others, are no longer in business.

The DF is not the best buy, but as an older guy who grew up with a F2, I seriously like the looks of it. Simply because I can, I might buy one-silver.

I shoot with a 700 and 800E, and am not ready to switch; but the Sony is a beautiful, easy to hold replacement for sure. I really like the feel of it.

Do you want film or digital? Large format or medium format is film. You want digital. Buy the full frame Nikon 610. That will suit your needs well. 24 digital full frame megapixels. Great digital camera.
You might want to consider the 800 or 800E but probably don't need the 36 megapixels and the added cost. 24 pixcels in the 610 is more than adequate. The build quality of the 610 is great.
