Hawks are usually scared if you get too close. This one frequents our sports complex so guess he is use to noise and people. At one point he was sitting on the wire fence with a Kingbird close by. The Kingbird (about the size of a big sparrow), flew up and pecked him on the head. Finally the hawk flew off with the Kingbird following right behind him. The small bird must have had a sharp beak....

For the first two shots, my Nikon has a setting called Photo Illustration. I love that setting on some things. But on these first two pictures I also changed them to black and white with a program on my computer.

Good series Alma. There is a name for the process you used for the first two shots, but my old mind can't remember it. Anyone? That fat turtle could feed a family of four for a week. ;-)

No, we made sure the Rot didn't see the turtle. He for sure would have stuck his nose too close.....

Definitely in the running for ugliest. Hope the Rottweiler was not curious.

I don't know if my reply went to you but The black background on the lily is simply a black trash can sitting behind it. I am not intelligent enough to know the settings so I just let my camera do its thing. Sometimes it surprises me.

OK, OK, love the series. .... especially the Bee... captured in space and composition is text book ideal.

But?? take #6, black background. Ordinary I use tight f stop, flash on, low ISO, and hi shutter speed to blot out background.. but you did not almost opposite my my typical settings for flowers!!!
ƒ/4.5 (1/500) ISO equiv: 3200 Flash Fired: No (enforced)... did you use a back drop ??? or was it in post??? Or should I "try it you'll like it."

The snake is not poisonous. But he is still a snake.... We have seen so many snakes this year around the lake areas. This one was crossing the gravel road. We use our zoom on them. Wouldn't trust any snake to get that close for sure.

Nice set--tell me a little bit about the snake photo. A little too close for me!

Definitely used zoom lens although it was not poisionous. A snake is still a snake. We try not to get in their personal spaceQ
