I will stand by what I posted.
They are very few photographer's who are b&W artists.
They are not here.
Anyone who takes pictures, will once in a while, take a shot that is better in b&w, hell even me.
Like it or not, there is a new breed of street photographers, who are useing color.
I could care less what someone 50 years ago, thought street photography should be.
The only rules to photograghy are the ones you limit yourself too.
I have not seen one picture posted on this site I would buy.
Not one.
Out of focus, gray blobs are not my idea of something I would frame.
Anytime you need a caption to describe a picture, that's a snapshop.
By choice, I in live in a small town, no main street, nothing really to here to shoot that would classify as street photography,
but that doesn't hinder my ability to know what is good and what isn't.

Great shots.
Stick with color. More and more street artist are going to color. It is how we see life.
There are only a handful of photographers in the world, who can repeatedly produce successful of b&W shots.
Unfortunaltey, none of them are on this site.

Bill you have grown tiresome
You bore me.
You haven't a clue what you are talking about.
The more you post, the more you show your ignorance.
You should stop while you are behind.
You are truly not worth my time.
Adios, goodbye, eat shit and die.

I never back peddle.
You know what's evil?"
Some poor person is going to read what you posted, and think, this guys a pro and ruin their gear because of you.
You never, ever wrote how far away you were.
Or that even casually glancing at someone welding can burn your eyes.
Did you mention that.
No.
I don't think you have ever held a stinger in your hands, much less struck an arc.
I was a "PRO" welder for 40 years.
I wrote a detailed post on how to take a picture of someone welding and the weld itself.
I posted on how to do it safely with out harm to yourself and your camera and gear.
What did you post?
Blah, blah, blah, I have taken lots of shots. Trust me. I'm a pro.
You never mentioned one camera setting. The safety involved in taking a shot
What I posted was from experience, my photos have been in The United Association of Plumbers and Pipefitters, monthly publications.
I seriously doubt you have even taken pictures of anyone welding.
Bill,I am tired of you and your claims.
For everyone else, here a a few tips.
Never look directly at the welding arc. It will fry your eyes like eggs. Blister your eyeballs and yes it hurts like hell.
Trust me one this one. I have fried my eyes more than once.
Wear saftey sunglass's, at the very least saftey glasses. Sun glasses and a satfey face sheild works as well. Sunglass's alone not such a good idea. If something were to hit the lens and shatter, the pieces can go straight to your eyeball and blind you. Yes, it is that serious.
If anyone around you is using a grinder. throwing sparks. I have had grinder disks explode and while I was using them. Protect your eyes, you only get two.
I have had rust ground off my eyes, from gringing dust getting in my eyes. That was seriously uncomfortable, and it completely freaked me out. Having the eye doctor grinding on my eyeballs with this little Dremel grinder, Just thinking about it still gives me the willies.
Camera setting:
Low ISO, 200, the welding arc is as bright as the sun.
Shutter speed, go fast. It will freeze the sparks flying from the weld, unless you want trails then go slow.
Apature, again thats up to you wide open for bokah or stopped down for depth.
Use a tripod
Use common sense. If you can't look at the weld without getting your eyes fried by it. What do you think is going to happen to you sensor?
Lastly, have way too much fun.

You can get that close with a filter. That's taking a picture of welding. Your are just taking a picture of a welder. Big difference.

I bought PIXELFLASH [no bend pins] from Amazon. It is longer than the average reader.
Works great.
The 1Dx has a sd card no pins.
FF has no crop factor. 200 mm is 200 mm.
The cheapest solution is a converter.
I bought a 1.4 II and a 2x II, used for 325, for the pair.
It's that or a longer lens, I have a 300 L and it's a f/4.
Any 300 L and longer f/2.8 lenses are seriously expensive, thousands and thousands expensive.

Bill do me a favor, take your camera, get real close to someone welding, 6 or 7 inches away from the weld. Get a couple dozen shots. Then let me know how much it cost to fix your camera.

Yes it will. Go to a welding supply house, buy a clear 4"x4" cover plate. Tape it to the front of your lens. Cover your camera and all of your lens as well. Those sparks are hot and will stick to metal and melt into plastic. An old welding glove, cut it up use it, a welding blanket works. A old pair of jeans. No synthetics, nylon or rayon. That stuff melts. Covering it up with a zip lock baggie will not work. Plastic melts.
You need to protect yourself as well.
Wear safety glass's, A long sleeve shirt, made of flannel, cotton or denim. No shorts, wear jeans, and wear a good pair of boots.
I was forever stepping on hot stuff and melting the soles of my boots.
A few precautions and you and your gear will be safe.
Have fun, post the shoots, I would like to see them.
