The photo of Ruby killing Oswald was a snapshot that became a famous photograph. A rose by any other name . . .

We have a small village which comes to life every December under the Christmas tree. This year my wife and I managed to walk around it in the smow.

[quote=larryepage] Some use glossy paint which photographs OK after it gets "weathered in" a bit. But others (Like the Union Pacific on their 844 and 3985 locomotives) use a paint that is so flat that it seems to suck absolutely all the light out of the air.

I have taken pics of UP844 and 3985 and got good results by using the "lighten shadows" tool.

This is true. Happened in the 1950s . . . in Central Illinois there are towns named Oblong and Normal. Okay, you are way ahead of me, but the headline said: Oblong man marries Normal woman.

Doesn't look a whole lot different than sections of it in Central Illinois south of Chicago we were still driving on before it basically was replaced by I-55! Nice photo.

[quote=Delta49]I couldn't agree more with you, as a matter of fact I don't like seeing the word Xmas. It's Christmas.
“Xmas” is, in fact, not the English letter “ex”. It is an abbreviation of the Greek name of “Christ”, Χριστός (Christos), which starts with the Greek letter Chi. Abbreviating “Christ” as “X” can be traced many centuries back, with some written documents dated as early as 1100 AD.

Don't know about England, but years ago I had a friend buy a Nikon for me in Japan. It was held for duty in Chicago, 200 miles from my home. Luckily, my brother worked in Chicago and he went down and bailed it out for me, then sent it on. Authorities had filled the word "Nikon" with lead.

If, during a visit to the US could something like a camera be purchased and brought back to England without a tariff being charged?

Thanks for your comment, Lemon Drop. I was driving down a secondary highway heading into an oncoming storm. I saw this old barn a few hundred yards off the highway and wanted to get a couple shots. I managed to get 6 shots with slightly different tweaks to the settings, and this pic is the best of those 6. The storm was moving quickly and I had to get the hell out of there. I will be returning that way, maybe this fall or next summer. That particular stretch of highway (Number 13 in South Saskatchewan) has a lot of these old places left standing, even a ghost town or two.
Thanks for your comment, Lemon Drop. I was drivin... (show quote)
