If the background was a corral with cows or horses . . . I'd call it a rope . . .
Since the background is nautical . . . I'd call it a line . . .

Thank you. I agree.

This image does work as a tribute to the selfless dedication of the story. The scale is a bit of a problem, though. I can understand that having the man be very small in the photo brings into focus the vastness of the job. Without explanation, though, we don't know what he is doing. It is hard to see what he is actually doing because he is very small relative to the frame.

As a photograph I think the major problem is the amount of relatively uninteresting sky compared to the beach. I think I would have included more of the beach which has detail and interest rather than the sky. This is, of course, a very subjective observation and it is your photo, so your vision is the one that counts.

thanks Erich. Yes, it would have benefited with less of the sky. I'll try that. I have some others I will look at as well with your suggestion in mind. Hope you are healing fast. Matt

A very nice image, but I had trouble finding "The cleaner" Also I feel the image would be more powerful with the top 1/2 of the sky cropped off.

Yes, I agree with your crop suggestion. thanks Matt

Rope is generic. Line is a rope for a specific purpose ie anchor line, dock line and a host of others.

Yes, I have strung a clothes line for my wife. Thanks for your comment. Matt

I once heard a young woman say to a sailor, "Well, that's quite a line."

He must have been all tied up in knots. Thanks. Matt

Actually, it may technically be "Small Stuff" If it is less than 1 3/4" Circumference (~9/16 Dia.), otherwise line is the term.

Rope is Wire.

My guess is that it is a 3" line

I think it is, but I can check with someone. Matt

Just one little tip. Learn how to make selections and then practice, practice, practice until it gets to be second nature. PS is a powerful program, you will enjoy it. Let us see more of your creations.

John, Thanks for the advice. Just what I need. Matt

Nice beach photo. That said, I'd like the "cleaner" to be a bit more prominent--I almost missed him.

I agree. He didn't cooperate. Had to make do. Thanks. Matt

Matt, would you tell what PS tools you used and how. Like for Unsharp Mask the slider values. Like for Curves the settings. Like for Eyedroppers, RGB settins and places in image applied. Were you trying to enhance the cloud & sky reflections in the water.

I was using the simple sliders: black, white, contrast, exposure, shadows, highlights, clarity, etc. They are the only ones covered so far. I clicked on the b and on the w for automatic adjustment. Then I moved the other sliders till I liked what I saw; I don't remember the values. Sorry, John.

This fellow, a volunteer, spends time each morning, clearing the beach of the previous day's detritus. He is early enough that he has the place to himself -- except for a nuisance photographer.
