I shot my step daughters wedding because they could not afford anyone else, my price was very reaonable. Even though I am far from a pro I did have my lighting, two cameras, etc, so I looked the part, I guess. I had the same issue with family and guests. After the wedding taking the family shots were the worst. sometimes there were over 5 people taking pictures, some even stepped in front of me to take them. What a nightmare. I decided right then to never do another wedding. Good thing I didn't have a cattle prod.

I have just got to say you have big Balls. At my Daughters wedding, if I had taken the camera Pros time away from taking photos, my wife and daughter would have killed me. Even taking the camera is "a sign", IMHO.
Having them be compared later would be "a sign".

I guess we are open for discussion -- is the father of the bride allowed to take some pictures with permission from the daughter, wife. and the hired photographer? I did not take time away from the pro -- I was in the the front pew all of the wedding I was just a father taking pictures of his only daughters wedding -- ( see other post ) if the hired photographer said no I would have respected that -- no flash was allowed during the service and post photos were done off site of the church ( see link ) It just takes balls to ask!!

It didn't use to bother me as much, but nowadays... here is a shot of chaos, a nightmare for me. The fellow in the back with his arms way up, that's the dad. The guests were like a pack of hungry paparazzi.

I too have a D 300 and both the 35 and 50. For money spent they are both the best lens in my bag. For what you want I would recommend the 35 plus in my case I think it is just a tad sharper. You won't be unhappy with either one. Honestly for the price I would look on Craigs list or KEH and get them both. You porbably won't spend over $200.

Wow, awesome photo.

For a young photographer, the 35mm will likely be more useful, as, on a DX camera, it is basically a 52mm, which is the "normal lens" which was the most common lens back in the days of film.

Further, for a young photographer, I'd stay away from VR lenses, as good handling technique can arise from the need to hold things steady.

There was no VR back in my photojournalism days, nor digital cameras, for that matter, but I developed the skill to shoot a 200mm lens at 1/8th of a second shutter speed with tack sharp results. With a wide angle and elbow supports, I can shoot at nearly two full seconds exposure, tack sharp. There's no substitute for developing steady hands and good camera technique.

If you guys don't like the question why do you answer with a negative? Why not just hit the back arrow and read another thread that someone else has started. I probably did this 10 times already today because I see the same questions over and over. But mostly this is because the people are fairly new to forums like this, so they don't know about or how to use the search feature. Every time I join a new forum it takes me a while to figure out what and where everything is and how it works. Hell, it took me 2 months to figure out how to upload a picture here because UHH has so many quirks when using IE9/Win7. So please, hit the back space key or the back arrow in your browser if you have heard enough on the subject. I have a Canon 7D and I will read everything said about it even if it is a repeat.

I really did not mean it to be ugly, just a fact. The ones that always get me are like "Whats a good portrait lens?" or "What is a good walk around lens" etc.

That's the way it is with a whole lot of topics MT. A quick search when you have a question is all it takes. Maybe if Admin would state that by the "Create New Topic" button.

You yourself have posted on recent threads of this same title so what does starting a new ambiguouis thread do besides clutter up the subject? I fail to see the benefit here.
