Hello
I am in the category of what you would call very amateur.
I have had various cameras over the years, with the best being a Canon T2i. The settings have always been left on auto or one of the scene selections.
I recently picked up a D7500 and a couple of lenses and have been reading and trying out manual settings. Not producing the greatest yet but getting there.

Last year at my daughter's wedding, I brought a camera and during photography sessions, took pics along side the photographer. Stayed out of the way but wanted some pics to give my daughter while she waited for the pro stuff to return.
This weekend we will be attending a Niece's wedding and will be bringing the new camera.
After all that here's the question. What is the proper etiquette when taking pics at a wedding.
Is it typically OK to shadow the photographer some to take my own pics? Of course the flash would be turned off but was considering bringing a tri or mono pod.
Thanks
Jim

Let the pro do his thing and look around for other shots. Photos of other guests, while they're relaxed and not posing for the official photographer, can make a great addition to the wedding album. There are going to be a lot of cameras pointed at the bride and groom, point yours in the opposite direction and get something original. You could step back and include the photographer in your shot for example.

A freeze on Israeli settlements should be an absolute minimum. Israel is acting like your next-door neighbour gradually moving the dividing fence further and further onto your property. Moving the embassy to Jerusalem is like the government giving your next-door neighbour one of your bedrooms.

I admit that I don't know all the details of this case, so if I've missed something, then please let me know. This seems to me to be a trial by media. Surely there would be procedures in place for this type of event. If, (and this is one of the things I don't know), the procedure is to wait for backup, then can you really blame him for doing as he was trained? You can argue that the procedure is wrong, but can you justifiably vilify this guy for not breaking the rules? We may all like to think that we would have acted differently, but can we really know until it happens? And, what if he had acted differently? What if he'd gone in alone and been killed? Sure, everyone would be hailing him as a hero. But what about the police department? Would they have said that he died in the line of duty, and paid out whatever compensation, (another thing I don't know), to the family? Or would they say that he'd broken with procedure and was acting on his own? We all know that the press loves to get their claws into someone and not let go, and this seems to be the case here.

Of course, if there is no such procedure in place, then this post is pointless. But, if there is, then this guy was just doing the job he was trained to do in the way he was trained to do it.

Life is a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of buckets of water. You can try to make a splash with your drop or you can just blend into the water. The end result is the same.

Or you can just throw buckets of piss over each other. That way no-one comes out smelling particularly good.

You seem different these days. Not saying good or bad, but definitely different.

Just trying to avoid the petty bullshit. If people would stop dividing everyone into two groups, Those I agree with and those I disagree with, they may find they have a lot more in common than they think. You don't have to immediately shoot someone down over gun control, just because you disagree about Trump. Perhaps it's just the realisation that life's too short for that shit.

And once again we reach the "mines bigger than your's because I know more about guns" stage of the argument.

Why don't the two of you stop pulling each other's hair and pretending you don't like each other, and just go out on a date?

Today, I placed my Glock pistol on the table right next to my front door. I left its clip beside it, then left it alone and went about my business.

While I was gone, the mailman delivered my mail, the neighbor's son across the street mowed the yard, a girl walked her dog down the street, and quite a few cars stopped at the "stop" sign near the front of my house.

After about an hour, I checked on the gun and it was quietly sitting there, right where I had left it. It had not moved itself outside. It had not killed anyone, even with the numerous opportunities it had been presented to do that. In fact, it had not even loaded itself.

Well you can imagine my surprise, with all the hype by the Left and the media, about how dangerous guns are and how "they" kill people. Either the media is wrong, or I'm in possession of the laziest gun in the world.

Can someone help me make my gun work?

Well, I'm off to check on my spoons. I hear they're making people fat!

Okay, so you're labouring the point that's already been made countless times. "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". I totally agree. In fact, I would go one step further. People with guns don't generally kill people, irresponsible, untrained, mentally disturbed and criminal people with guns kill people". So my question is, why not make sure that a person is responsible, trained, mentally stable and not a criminal, before allowing them to have a gun? No-one is trying to take your guns away from you. They just want to make sure that you know what you're doing with it. What are you so afraid of?

There are two maps in that link. One showing the borders of the promised land according to Numbers and Ezekiel, both are pretty close but not exact. The other is as promised to Abraham, totally different and unrecognisable. The fact is that we gave them the land that's now known as Israel, when we should, in my opinion, have given them Berlin.

not only that, they are the conquerors. most every nation or people have been conquered. the Israelis conquered the area they call their own. Were willing to share it with others too. Let's face it, those that call themselves Palestinians have been killing each other forever, as it is all across the Middle East. The only places where that does not happen is where there is a despot in place (Assad, Sadam, Kadafi, etc.). Otherwise they just keep killing themselves.

I used to work with a Palestinian engineer. When he moved to the US, he was astounded at the news stories from over here. He said they had no semblance to reality. He said the Palestinians are their own worst enemies. Said they keep killing each other for power, wealth, land, possessions. He grew up in Israel. Was educated there. His parents were educated there too. He said life was so much better for Muslims there than in Gaza or other Palestinian cities or villages. He said they had access to education, jobs, opportunities. Instead, his family moved to 'Palestine' and suffered nothing but misery after doing so for all the opposite reasons mentioned above. He didnt understand western presses obsession with the "poor, disadvantaged Palestinians". He thinks the stories are unfairly slanted and rarely tell the truth.

The arab nations rose up against Israel. A multinational task force tried to take the land in the name of Allah and it failed (again) during the 6-Day war. Native Americans are a conquered people. So many nations have been conquered over the years and it will keep happening. The press isnt going to change history by writing stories about the "disadvantaged" conquered ones.

Native Israelis, Sabra, have lived there for millenia. Same for the Bedouins (muslim, christian and jew). Nobody even wanted the land until the Israelis made it successful and appealing. That's a fact.

The Palestinians seem to be quite blood-thirsty (to themselves and the Jews). I dont think anything will change that other than a strong father figure...a despot.

The Israelis are not out for more land. Were that they case, they could have had so much more area after the 6-Day war. They are content to have what they have...with the exception of land illegally occupied or land that was traditionally part of Israel (west bank). they are a sovereign nation and will fight to keep it that way. The nonsense in the US/western press will not change that.
not only that, they are the conquerors. most ever... (show quote)

Totally agree with you. If the Palestinians would accept Israel, I'm sure they could learn a hell of a lot like irrigation and agriculture from them. Once again religion raises its ugly head.

No. They've been there since 1947. The Bible makes no reference to Israel as a place. It does mention "the children of Israel", but that's the name of the tribe. There is also no reference as to where "The Promised Land" was supposed to be.

So, Elaine is actually a dear sweet soul, and only I through my distorted lenses see her as the dragon lady? I've entertained that idea a couple of times but she always disabuses me of that notion rather quickly. The way to determine if something is true isn't to compare it to your preconceived opinion.

I have no idea about Elaine's personality. I was making a general observation, not a personal one. If you see her as the dragon lady, then that's based on your own personal experiences with her. Like I said, we all see things from a different angle.

Could be that "the truth" is different than "your truth".

Everyone will look at everything from a slightly different angle. All media has a target audience or core base that they try to appeal to. The trick is to keep this in mind whatever you're reading. And, remember, no two people ever see the same rainbow.

The Daily Mail is something of a national joke here in the UK. Google "Daily Mail false stories", and you'll see loads of examples. They usually have an element of truth but are taken wildly out of context. I know someone who used to occasionally work for them, he told me that their unofficial motto is "It's not our job to report the truth, it's our job to sell newspapers.". It's aimed at people who enjoy a rant over their breakfast.
