Hi Jerry,
We also watch TV & films from Australia and the UK (plus a few others). We use closed caption on them as well. Even though they are speaking English, in some cases the accent "tips us over a bit." Take care & ...

Al,

Thanks!

The steak cooking video was a project to learn Premiere Pro after using Premiere Elements for a decade. Although Elements is supposed to be the lesser product, I'm discovering advantages it has over Pro! It is a fun covid project.

Hi Bill,
I once used an older version of Premiere Pro (CS3) and have settled on PSE 15 for my YouTube editing. It does everything I need and more. Different subject: It's lunch time and your video gave me an idea - steak for lunch sounds good. <grn> Thanks again for your input. Take care & ...

Al,

My reading suggested that an "ordinary" camera with a (usually mini) HDMI out jack could work as a webcam if you had an adapter for the computer's USB port. The "best" is supposed to be the "Elgato Cam Link". https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1453840-REG/elgato_systems_10gam9901_cam_link_4k_game.html

I've never used one and didn't try to buy it.

Since it was out of stock (and cost money), I kept looking and found a way to use the high quality camera in my phone. It solved my problem of having a crappy built in laptop camera. (My laptop camera is at the bottom of the screen. It aims at my belly, not my head! My old laptop was much better because the camera was at the top of the screen.)

Hi Rick,
Here is a back for a 4x5 camera that will allow you to use a Nikon camera to shoot a series of pictures to then stitch together to make a final image (https://www.ebay.com/itm/Nikon-DF-D4-D7000-DSLR-SLR-Digital-Back-Adapter-For-4x5-Large-Format-Camera/183710930906?hash=item2ac60657da:g:QggAAOSwux5YM6bG). DroidCam. (I put it in my post). I didn't put a link in because I thought googling for the computer program, the phone app and more information would be more useful to anyone interested. Even the part about where to mount or position the phone/camera is part of it. That there are both a paid and free version is useful to know.

Hi Bill,
I've downloaded DroidCam (pay version) and will be giving it a try. In your earlier post, you mentioned an "adapter" that's needed. What adapter are you referencing? Thanks in advance for your thoughts. Take care & ...

Hi group,
I'm currently using ZOOM video conferencing software for an online classroom and use a couple of Nikon DSLR's along with the webcam on my laptop as part of that classroom. They work all great with digiCam Control software. I'd like to add another camera that is a point & shoot. I can't figure out how to use a P&S camera with digiCam and wonder if there is some other software I can use with the P&S camera? My Google searches have not returned the information I need; maybe I'm asking the question wrong. Anyway, can any of you offer suggestions? Thanks in advance for any ideas. Take care & ...

Is there a reason why you can not just work from the other side, instead of reaching around? Or the side?

Hi Frank,
Yes, it's possible to go to the other side of the vise, many other instructors do just that. We feel our students get a more understandable lesson when they see the same view we (the instructors) do rather than the reverse. Yes, it's harder for us but a better lesson for the student. Thanks for the thought. Take care & ...

Hi group,
Currently, I'm shooting YouTube videos and ZOOM classes using a tripod with a macro rail positioned several inches from my fly-tying vise. I sit behind the tripod and reach over the camera to tape or teach fly tying instructions. I can't tell you how many times I accidentally "kick" the tripod out-of-alignment. It's no big deal when shooting for YT but distracting as heck when it happens in a ZOOM classroom. I've been searching for a tripod replacement that I can clamp to the table's edge. If I could find or build this type of clamp, I could mount my macro rail on it and continue my work without disruption. Do any of you have ideas about where to purchase a table-edge clamp or have ideas on how to build one? I spend several hours the other day browsing Harbor Freight looking for ideas but to no avail. Thanks in advance for any ideas. Take care & ...

Hi Sark17,
You've gotten several good suggestions. I live in southwest Idaho, a high-desert part of the world. Humidity is seldom a problem but when I travel to more humid parts of the world, I drop several desiccant bags in each lens & camera case. I've never had a problem and my equipment has been to many high-humidity locations over the years. The bags I use are like these I found for sale on eBay (https://www.ebay.com/itm/5ive-Star-Gear-Silica-Gel-Disicant-TSP-5222000/324181712611?epid=1912096447&hash=item4b7abc5ee3:g:VsUAAOSwGXJe0QPN).
