Thanks, it was a lot of fun for me and I was always the last one, lagging behind the group..looking to get a few more pics of course.
Thanks you for your kind words.

A few weeks ago I sought advice from you all on taking some pictures while in DC. Here are few of the results. To those of you who said it would be hot and humid...it was!! We really enjoyed the trip and I certainly would go back. The changing of the Guard @ Arlington National Cemetery and the Holocaust museum were probably my favorites. It was definitely information overload...can barely take it all in and much less can't retain it all either. Thanks again to all who gave advice and suggestions!!

Lincoln Memorial @ dusk

Amphitheater @ Arlington

Independence Hall @ Philadelphia

Rotunda @ Capital

Mixbook is a great site I have used quite a bit. Lots of different themes and graphics to pick from. I have also used Blurb a few times, but Mixbook is a little cheaper, and the books are very good quality. Have fun.

Mitchell, SD has the Corn Palace, and its free. I would take the Badlands loop off of I-90. As far as the Black Hills goes, driving Spearfish Canyon is a must. It is always beautiful and has different waterfalls you can stop and see. (Bridal Veil and Rough Lock are the main 2) If you have time, stop in Deadwood (checkout the #10 Old Style Saloon)is fun and Mount Roosevelt (google it)is not far from here. Custer State Park Wildlife loop is great. You'll see buffalo and possibly some big horn sheep and donkeys too. If you want to tour a cave, Wind Cave is our favorite we've gone about 4 times and it's on the way to Custer State Park. There are a few wineries in the Hills if you like to stop and visit them. I believe there is a "wine trail", I would google that also. Enjoy your trip! The hills has had plenty of rain this year and everyone says it is green and lush, we haven't made it out there this year yet!

Thanks everyone for your responses!! Tons of great advice. We won't have to worry about driving in traffic. We are going with a group on a tour that has lined up buses to get us everywhere and we do have a night tour also, so I'm hoping I can get some good night shots. We are also getting to go to Philadelphia one day, so also excited about that! We do have some free time, so all your suggestions have come in handy!! All of you guys are great to offer all the advice! Now we just have to decide! I think the Cathedral will be on my list, amazing piece of architecture!
Thanks again everyone!!

I went there last month for my first time and stayed south of Reagan Airport. Took the Blue Line Metro every day.
I would suggest seeing the Smithsonian Castle and taking the free tour that starts at 1pm. Most of the indoor attractions open at 10am and close at 5pm. One museum I would recommend, which has a fee, is the International Spy Museum. I spent 5 hours there.
I walked 11 miles the first day, 7 the next and 8 the third. According to my Fitbit.
Enjoy and love to see your shots.📸

Good to know about the monopods and selfie sticks. My kids no doubt would do the selfie stick. I have a monopod and was wondering if I should drag it along. Thanks again!

Be prepared for the heat and humidity.

Also, monopods, selfie sticks and tripods are not allowed indoor in the buildings along the mall nor on the US Capitol grounds. Stick to just your camera and maybe one lens change and have a great trip.

Thanks for the good advice! I was expecting it to be hot!!

Most of the memorials are open 24 hrs. so if you can get up really
early before the usual hoards of tourists you can get some interesting
pictures. Fewer people at night as well. Be prepared for heat and
humidity.

We are heading to DC the first part of August. I'll take any and all hints for taking pictures of this historic place. I haven't been there for 30 years, so I'm excited to go back and share it with my family!
