These are gorgeous! I do hope you hang that first one on your wall for everyone to see when they visit. Keep on clicking. Can't wait to see more.

Thank you! I put the rainbow one, on canvas, in a local non-juried show, got nice compliments—-and it sold for $80! That was fun!
Thanks for your encouragement.

Intel recently came out with a very useful feature/app called Intel Unison. If your computer is compatible, you can download Intel Unison from the Microsoft App store and the app will allow you to transfer your photos/videos wirelessly from your iPhone to your Windows laptop. I tried it out myself and couldn't believe how easy it was to pair an iPhone to a Windows computer. Here's a link with more info.

I will try this immediately! Thanks!!

Battery "swelling"...the old Ni-Cad batteries were very prone to this, lithium less o, but still occurs. Rule of thumb, place the battery on a flat surface a spin it...If it doesnt spin, battery is good, if it spins, the battery is towards end of life. Unsure if your camera has a place to check battery in your menu, but my Nikons do & will show not only current charge, but lifer of battery on a grade of 1-4 4 being new or best

Like your spinning test. I had swollen batteries—-had to dispose of several. Thanks.

I have been painting since I was 4 years old (82 years). Painted every spare minute I had. I have taught art for 60 years. When students asked "When do I get to finally call myself an artist?" I told them "as soon as you finish your first painting!". I mean that! It may be bad art at first, but it IS art. Even bad art sells. The good part is that you improve with EVERY painting for the rest of your life. Nothing I ever painted failed to sell. So many of my students have become really good artists, but all are artists. None ever failed. EVERYONE can paint, some just don't know it YET.
Photography may take a little longer for some, but I have been a member here since 2011 and it has been amazing to watch the improvement of so may members here. So many have gone from good to fantastic! Sadly, mine hasn't improved as much as I'd like but that's OK. I'm happy for those who have improved so greatly. To me it's all art.
JMHO.

Thank you! Maybe I really CAN call myself an artist, a photographer!

My photography has always been art. Not every image, those are memories. Example, late at the end of the reception I noticed the bride took off her shoes. They were sparkly red shoes. I took her shoes, gathered her flowers and some of the bridesmaids flowers and some of the center pieces and arraigned them. She loved the image so much she ordered a large print to hang. We all, as photographers, shood be making memories AND art.

Very nice. All the photos of my wedding 52 years ago were lovely—and very standard. My children got some very creative shots of theirs—times change.

As Photographers, we can have Artistic Intent,
We can produce work that is meaningful to us and practice a high level of craft.
But it is never for us to say ‘this is Art’ (capital A) . The same is true of painters, sculptors, cabinet makers, musicians or any other expressive craft. We don’t get to decide, all we can do is produce work that moves us.
If it moves others, that’s a bonus.
It is just not something we need to worry about, we need to find joy in Doing the Work.
We release our work into the world……
Then we let the chips fall where they may.
We let it go, and get on with the doing….

Thank you. This really speaks to me. I recently entered a photo on canvas in a local non-juried art show here in Salida, CO. One entry per person. First come, first served. Limited to 72 area ‘artists.’ I’m a hobby photographer, only been dabbling 8 years, don’t even use the big editing tools yet. The show awarded prizes but was not really a competition. All art forms welcome.
There were 10 photos in it. When I saw the others, I seriously wondered at my audacity at entering! The others were stunning and unique—-on glass, on wood, a collage, an etherial composite—some by folks who had 50 years’ experience! My landscape with rainbow looked pretty humble!
I don’t know if I’m ‘an artist’ or ‘a photographer’ or not! And perhaps it doesn’t really matter! But this thread and your comment got me thinking. I got many complements on the photo—an impulsive quick shot of a striking and fleeting moment taken from my back porch and barely edited. It resonated with viewers…and one was excited and bought it ($80–some goes to the arts council!). I didn’t enter to sell, but it was fun!
Maybe I’ll look at my photos and surroundings and try to be more ‘creative,’ but mostly I just shoot what catches my eye—and try to keep the technical aspects in mind to capture the effect I want. Rarely is there deep meaning. Sometimes my photo tells a story, at least in my mind.
Maybe a photo is simply communicating what I see and feel: if it resonates with another, provokes a closer look or elicits an emotion, then we’ve connected. Maybe that’s the ‘Art.’

So nice of you to say that! Thanks! We drove around France and Spain and Lowland countries 9 weeks last spring. I’m buried in photos! Now we head to Peru—-with a new camera! Hope I get lots of good ones there.

Excellent photos dbfalconer. I like them all.

Have you checked out O'Haver Lake and Marshall Pass Road? As a former Canon City resident I have taken numerous lovely photos in that area.

Dennis

Thanks! Yes! Love that area! I have dozens of gorgeous aspen shots from up there. We live just north of Poncha Pass.
