What your describing is a point and shoot not Mirrorless. Mirrorless cameras have interchangeable lenses like the new Canon R. You may be thinking of bridge cameras with built in zoom lens.

The Fuji X100F is a 24MP Mirrorless Camera, with a fixed 23mm (35mm equiv.) lens. It has a digital teleconverter capability for 50mm and 70mm focal lengths, which they accomplish through special interpolation software that they developed. The camera is only 17oz.

It’s all I took to Europe last year on two cruises, for a month. I had zero regrets, and was very glad I didn’t take my interchangeable lens camera with me.

I currently have a Canon EOS 70D with a variety of lenses. Gets to be a bit much fpr extensive travel and long days on day trips, lugging it around Europe last summer was not easy. I also have an Olympus Stylus Tough which is great for the beach and snorkeling, but limited for scenery, etc.

We have a trip coming up this Fall that includes a 10 day cruise in the eastern Med starting in Athens, including Israel, ending in Rome where we will stay for several days. I was looking at some mirrorless cameras with decent built in zoom capability that could fit in a pocket. I would rather not carry lenses around.

Suggestions please.

I, too, have a 70D, with a Tamron 18-400mm normally on it, and find it is a load for just walking around. So I picked up a used Lumix ZS-100 [1" sensor, 25-250mm] from B&H, and love it. I normally just carry it in a small belt pouch. The Canon is fine if I spend most of my time in the car or if I'm specifically going somewhere to take photographs, but for exploring or just walking around, the DSLR is just an inconvenience and I'll take the smaller, lighter camera.

I travel with one camera, Nikon D7000 and one lens, Nikon 18-300 mm. It's heavy but it will cover 99% of situations.

I had exactly the same situation last year with a trip to Europe and a Med cruise coming up. LIke you, my Canon was perfectly good for stateside, and car trips, but I thought too big for walking narrow streets, inconspicuous street photography, etc. My local camera store let me try out the Olympus PenF system. The small (interchangeable) pancake lens was perfect for the street, and would fit in my trouser pocket with no trouble. In that configuration it looks like a point and shoot, perhaps not seeming so valuable to a thief. I also brought a faster zoom lens for interiors, and a telephoto for the longer shots from the ship. It could not have worked out better. I suggest you check it out. And hope all turns out well for you in your selection and your trip. JimR.

Have a look at any of the Sony 6000 series. The kit lens is compact and provides good coverage for landscapes and architecture. A telephoto zoom easily fits in a purse.

Simple.... Sony RX-10 IV.

I’ll enthusiastically second that. One of our friends/traveling companions purchased one for our 7 week African safari last summer. His images were stunning. He’s unable to comfortably use a DSLR due to shoulder issues. We’re all heading for the Amazon in 2020 and I am NOT lugging my DSLR gear on that adventure. I’ll be getting the Sony RX10 iv in plenty of time prior to our trip to get it all figured out.

I've traveled with the 70D and now the 80D matched with the EFS 18-135mm and this covers pretty much all conditions. We were in Grenada in February and Philadelphia Flower show in March and this combination worked fine. At 85 I'm not a strong as in the past but the weight didn't overwhelm. When you're on a tour you'll spend a lot of time just sitting and riding so weight is not a concern. First two pics from Phila., the last two from Grenada showing close and far picture possibilities.

My 70D is now my backup, as my travel camera is the new M50 w/adapter to expand lens use.

I use a Nikon P7800 for this purpose. I especially like that it has a viewfinder image as well as an LCD so when the sun is too bright, you can still composes a picture. Good zoom, small, portable. I recently saw one used on Ebay for 299.00. Uses popular En-EL14a batteries. I'd suggest extra batteries and a charger to take.

PS, what ever you decide on, practice a lot before the trip and learn how long the battery will last so you know how many spares to bring along.

I absolutely love my Fuji Film X100F. I added a Godox TT350 Flash and XT-1 trigger to my travel package. You may not like the fixed 35mm (equivalent) lens, but it really works for me.

Be very aware that the small point-and-shoot cameras with the LCD screen and no viewfinder will chew up battery power very quickly, especially if you leave it on. Always take a fully-charged spare along with you! I'm thinking I need to get one more spare, so I will have three batteries - one can be charging during the day, one will charge overnight, so I can always start each day with two fully-charged batteries. That is hard to do if you are on the road... But on a cruise or staying in one spot it would work well.
