Here's another suggestion. Rent a Sony RX10 IV. It will take a while to learn the Sony system. I did an Alaskan cruise/land tour in 2005. I took 25 lbs of equipment in a backpack. I own Canon:7D MII, 5D MIII and a few L lenses. I purchased the Sony in July 18' for a Danube River Cruise in Aug. I have used the two Canon's, just once, since purchasing the Sony. It's an incredible camera, weighs 2.3 lbs and It will cover the Alaska trip. (24 - 600 zoom.) I now take it everywhere. So convenient - super IQ - fantastic range.

Excellent suggestion. Expect rain, fog and mist in and around Juno for at least 50% of the time. It is much easier to keep the Sony under your rain jacket than your Canon and all it's lenses.

Duplicate deleted. Mosquito netting and bug spray too. The dragonflies should be plentiful as well...they are huge.

If you want to photograph wildlife such as bears and moose, my suggestion for safety reasons is to bring your longest zoom. If you get to go to Denali Park, the landscape opportunities are fantastic. Valdez is awesome for aquatic wildlife as well . Others have given you some terrific advice so I will not reiterate those. Your trip will be amazing!

Word to the wise as your Alaskan Fishing Guide will tell you. The Bears are locals and live there year round and you don't. If they decide that the fish you caught looks good and they want it.... give it to them. You cannot out run a Bear.

The bugs will be hatching in June. Suggest a mosquito net jacket that also covers your head and face. Most will have a zipper by the mouth.

If you are going to hike, do not take your good stuff unless you are EXPERIENCED in hiking/photography.
Take something small and less $$ with a zoom lens like a SonyRX10 IV (See the wonderful suggestion above)

Alaska off the highway in the forests is the wettest place I have ever been...you will get wet and muddy if hiking, and all your stuff will suffer. Impossible to keep things dry..the ground, "squishes" It is always that
way, even if it hasn't rained for awhile.

Gloom Boy has spoken....trying to save your money. None of this applies if you are just going fishing.

Hmmm I would take a 17-40mm, either 70-200 or 100-400mm and perhaps something a bit wider. But I hope you are going in late June. I did the inner passage in early June. Did some fishing, saw birds, no bears I was told they were still hibernating... But always in bear country, bear spray, and be prepared to move! Let the bear have the fish! And make noise when you move around.

Right. Also there is a nasty mosquito season usually from mid-June to the end of July.

In addition to mosquitos and bears, beware of moose. A cow moose with calf will kill you if you get too close.

Yes, stay well clear of any critter that has young nearby, especially large ones with teeth, hooves, or antlers, claws can be real painful too. But do remember that the mosquito kills more humans than anything else on the planet... take lots of repellent and screening your hat can help!

Took my Tamron 18-400 on my D5500 and it was all I needed on that camera. Also took
Nikon b700 bridge which proved to be useful albeit without the image quality of the 5500.

Flying to Alaska in June of this year. I will carry a Canon 7d Mll. Would like opinions on must have lenses to take. Will be fishing (streams and rivers) and touring by jeep. Thanks for ideas.

Haven't been to Alaska now for a few years, but the trips I did take were memorable. If I were headed up and had to take only a single lens, it would be my Tamron 18-400 mounted on my Nikon D7100. You might wish you had a bit more reach and if so, you might want a longer lens to shoot wildlife. Good luck. I wish I were going with you.

I was there in July and did land tours from Fairbanks to Seward...and cruised from there to Vancouver. Did the bus to the interior of Denali Park and shot with my Sigma 100-400 (Canon) and could have used a bit more reach a few times. I did bring along a Monopod and used it a lot. I would suggest a teleconverter instead of a longer much heavier lens to lug around. It is a great place for photos for sure!

You will have a great time. I'm from Juneau. Don't be scared of bears watch out for the mosquitoes. Take a wide angle, and a 300 plus, and regular something to 55. You won't want to pack a lot everywhere. Have fun.
