My next quest before I sell it is to hopefully find a
battery for the meter and run some film through it.
You can get an alkaline, shaped like PX13/PX625
which are toxic mercury cells originally used in it.
About $5 from the "usual suspects".
It's less reliable, but the meter was never great in
the first place, just a geegaw to boost its amateur
appeal. Thaz why these cameras are slightly more
valuable with the plain nonmetered "F" prism. See
attached photo with "F" prism. Very sleek, yes ?
GOOD NEWS is the rest of the camera is toadally
mechanical so you can forget about batteries :-)
thanks for the battery info
as long as I don’t point into the sun or really dark areas the meter will
function reasonably, always had a memory problem.
It seemed to get more accurate the more I used the camera but still never perfect.

Looks like a early 1964 Nikon. Nikon kept the Nikon F body and improved the metered top attachment to finally the Nikon FTN in 1968-1969.
You also have what appears to be a Nikon Soft Touch button attached to the shutter release. Nikon produced these because you had to push your finger inside a raised ring to reach the shutter button. The Soft Touch Button was a welcome accessory. Many other companies also produced it, but like I have always said, there is nothing like the quality of a Nikon accessory.

The "improved" successor to the original Photomic head on the OP's camera is much heavier than the depicted variant on his camera ...
... The original Photomic finder was only a little heavier than the plain prism finder.
Yeah we need to see the top of the camera body please. The earlier ones didn't have a plastic-covered film advance lever.
At least, in London, mine didn't.
Also keep in mind any original boxes, warranties, and miscellaneous packaging will greatly enhance the value

BTW. The short tube which screws onto the front of the cell & limits the field-of-view appears to be missing ...
... it is the alternative attachment to the diiffuser which can be seen that is screwed to the side of the Photomic head.

I was wondering what that (diffuser) was. Looked odd there over where the battery compartment is.
Took many good pictures with my Nikon F. Still have it

FYI. The
Sun is the battery ...
... The meter has a Selenium cell ...
... It either works (
that is, it responds to light) or it doesn't.
Check the accuracy against another light meter which you know works properly.

That camera must weigh about 4 pounds! I have a couple of 60’s era SLRs (not Nikon) and they have quite some heft to them. Or it seems so after handling modern cameras.
