My wife picked up some 1900ma at Costco last Friday. The box says pre-charged. What can I expect out of them? I made my statement from how well they had lasted in an H4 recorder I own.

I have had great result since June with Sanyo NEW 1500 Enelop xx Pack AAA Ni-MH Pre-Charged Rechargeable Batteries.
They are long lasting.

4 Pack = $8.79
8 Pack = $19.10
16 Pack = $41.79
20 Pack = $54.33

As you can see you are better off buying multiple 4 Packs.

Wow! Who was the mathematical genius who figured out the pricing on those?

phcaan,
When you get the low battery indication on your camera, keep shooting. It may be a long time until the camera actually stops working. The battery monitoring system in the camera is set for a higher voltage than your batteries' voltage. So it indicates a low battery when there is lots of juice left. Trouble is the warning factor is lost and you may suddenly find the batteries are actually dead.

I use energizer rechargables with a 15 minute charger. Can do up to 4 batteries at a time. I think mine have about the same specifications yours do except they are energizer, they work great and I get a pretty long use out of them before I have to recharge.

Tea:
If you are shooting constantly how long do they last?

I wouldn't know because I don't use them constantly. I use them for my p&s cameras. I can get a couple days worth of shooting a lot out of them though. Anyway it looks like you have gotten some other great recommendations on batteries.

Thanks I am going to try that next shoot.

I will vouch for the MaHa battery charger. I have a different model, but I'll assume they are all about equal. I thought the price was insane until I started doing deep research on them. I paid about $60 for the one I bought. Best money I ever spent. They are so superior to other chargers on the market you will not believe it.

And I also bought the MaHa Powerex AA batteries, AAA as well. It was a toss-up there versus the Eneloops by Sanyo, but I think the Powerex ones are better.

Money well spent. You won't be sorry.

Thank You. I have already ordered the La Cross charger but the MaHa and the La Cross were the ones I researched. To my mind they seemed equal. But I have been wrong before, let me see--- yup that was in 1962

NiMh is the battery type specified for your camera so the voltage level is already set. For sure Eneloop will serve you well.
. . . unless there's a wee fault with your camera . . .

Good luck.

What rechargeable batteries do you use? I am using Sanyo NiMH 2700mAH batteries but I don't seem to get very much time out of them before I see the low battery icon. I am using a Canon Powershot S5 and it uses 4 AA batteries. At the rate I am going I will need to construct a bandoleer like a machine gunner uses only stocked with AA batteries.
I am taking pictures of puppies and the best way I have found is to follow them around taking a lot of shots and then finding the best out of many. Any suggestions? Is a different charger the answer?

Thanks.

Agreed the Eneloops are terrific. They are low discharge - a very important point for the spares in your bag. They hold charge so well they actually come charged when you buy them.
Highly recommended. You can get them on line or at Ritz if they have any stores still open.

I don't know all the brands, but there are newer hybrid rechargable batteries on the market. I first purchase the Rayovac hybrids and have had wonderful results from them. I use them for my flash. They hold a charge for quite some time when not is use.

From my own experience, I have had the best luck with Thunderbolt NIHM batteries, sold only at Harbor Freight Tools. They cost about 7 dollars for a pack of four. Once you are their customer, they frequently send you coupons for 20% off any item. I would avoid using 15 minute chargers. They either fall to bring the battery up to full charge, or they cook em after a few cycles. Make sure you get a "smart" charger that enables you to leave the batteries in the charger and maintains them at a fully charged state

Thank You Birdog, that was a most informative piece. I like the fact that these folks tested the batteries in a real life situation rather than in some "Never Happen in Real life" lab scenario

Hello phcaan

I also use the Sanyo 1500 batteries in my Canon 7D with battery grip on the same charge for now it’s been two months I do take the batteries out of the grip when I place the camera back into camera backpack bag. I also use the
Sanyo charger that came with the batteries it gives the best charge, it’s designed to charge the batteries for maximum performance.

Age is probably not the problem here then. But it is possible that you're not letting the batteries get a full charge and thereby reducing their ability to do so. That's not so likely though if you've left them until the charger has indicated that they're fully charged. But you could try a brand new set of decent rechargeable batteries before you give up on the camera - (see the example of super intelligence in my previous post!)

Thanks Mike:
From all that I have read from this thread I don't think there is anything wrong with my camera, when I am shooting the puppies I am running around following them and shooting as fast as the camera can process the shots.
I ordered a couple sets of the eneloop batteries and a LaCross charger so when they come I will see what the difference is.
Thank you for your time and patience.
