I had both eyes done in the summer six years ago. I had my son drive me to the operating center and when he picked me up I instructed him to drive me to the beach so I could see what I was missing for
so many years. The waves were beautiful!

Be careful about having both cataracts operated on at the same time. If anything goes wrong like infection it happens to both.

If they were processed, since he used his "old eyes", they would now need to be processed using his "new eyes". There could be perceived differences.

Thank you for cooling my apprehension. My primary care dr is suggesting I go for an evaluation...at 83, my day will come. Yes, I know it is not like my Aunt who in the late 1940s with sandbags around her head ... today more like a drive-in restaurant... fast food.... done quickly

Like you I was very uneasy - the thought of anyone cutting into an eye totally freaked me out. But the actual experience was easy - in for the surgery very early one morning, home by noon and went to an art class that evening. Couldn't drive for several days, but that was the only difficulty. Go for it!

I had cataract surgery on my right eye a few years ago and just had the beginnings of one on my left eye. The surgery was easy peasy, mild sedative and I was in and out of the clinic in a couple of hours. I go in once a year for diabetic exams, and doc says my left eye is due. I have astigmatism in that eye so he may do laser surgery or a toric lens. I go in at the end of the month for that, and I'm hoping both sides are even for a change. Two sisters with worse vision than mine already had theirs done with good results and now wear reading glasses only.

I had both eyes done six months ago and I still marvel at the clear bright scenes around me. I told the doctor to give me perfect distance vision and he did! I use one contact when I figure I might need bifocal vision and cheaters for reading and computer. The rest of the time it’s just normal 20/15 vision. Couldn’t be happier.

Thank you, Bobnewnan for starting this thread, and thanks to all who added your experiences to it. I am at this moment searching for a cataract surgeon to get my cataracts removed and checking to find out what the medical codes are for the procedures I'll need and to see how much I'll have to pay out of pocket. Like some of you, I am very squeamish about anything touching my eyes. Your assurances go a long way towards easing that. Also, I did read the short list of side effects, including detached retinas...hoping that won't happen to me. If anyone can recommend a cataract surgeon in either Mesa or Tempe, Arizona please either PM me or add it to this thread. Congratulations to all who have found cataract surgery to be a benefit.

You are correct, don't need to reprint. As soon as I don't have two different eyes to make comparisons, then white will again be white. Today it is white and beige but that will cease.

Several have mentioned about being careful of their eyes. I was a pilot in the AF and I wouldn't let anyone do anything with my eyes, I wouldn't even use eye drops until a few years ago. When I told my daughter I was having the surgery, she just stared at me and said "You are doing WHAT?" But when I hit the golf ball more than 150 yards (sometimes), I couldn't see where it went so I knew it was time. Glad I did and if you are on the fence, go getter done.

Just had my left eye done Wednesday and had my right eye done earlier. It is a great improvement,my glasses were pretty thick and then cataracts changed my vision and it was so hard to shoot and edit it was so blurry so I have many to look at and edit. Best thing I did was have the surgery. Easy and great series g sgai. With clarity

I had my cataracts removed also - big difference in color and clarity.

While replacing the lens during the cataract surgery the Doctor also inserted a stint into my eye to relieve the glaucoma pressure. The stint is 1 mm long and enables the fluid to flow through the stint. My eye pressure is now mid normal range. The stint is made of titanium.

I've just finished cataract surgery, and can attest to the amazing improvement in vision.

Before it is too late, compare a white napkin with each eye. The cataract eye should be a yellowish brown or a brownish yellow. Mine did that. My cataract surgery involved inserting a lens implant. My glasses went from thick to thin with virtually no astigmatism.

Because when he printed them, they looked good with bad eyes. It's like using an uncalibrated monitor on your pictures and then when you print them they all turn out dark because of it. Same thing here. When you have cataracts on your eyes, everything looks darker because of the build up on your eyes. So you'd compensate for it by printing your pictures brighter. A person with normal eyes might see your printed pics as too bright but they looked ok to you (with your bad eyes). Now he can see that they are too bright and reprinting them with less brightness might make them better.

Don't know if the law is similar in the States, but here in Canada the reason you're not allowed to drive afterwards, is that due to the medication they give you, you are considered to be impaired.
