Ok now i am worried. I put another card in my camera and took some pics and upon looking at the sd card in my pc this screen shot will show you the folder where my raw files should be...check the dates on the files!

Are you looking at files on your hard drive or in the camera card?

Update: After reading more here, I wonder if the recover program created garbage. I also wonder if the card wasn't making proper contact when you got the garbage list. I never remove the card from the camera to avoid damaging contacts. I download via a USB cable. I don't erase until the card is almost full. I then reformat in camera.

Now you know that you shouldn't store photos on the SD card. You should, Format SD card in camera, shoot, come home, remove SD from camera, place in card reader, import or download from card reader to computer, sort files on computer, back them up, remove card from card reader, put in camera, format card in camera and now you are ready to go again. Never leave them on your SD card. Avoid deleting image from card while in the camera. Formatting the card in the camera keeps the card indexed and free of problems that are caused by corrupt files.

This is just about the biggest nonsense I've read in a while! Especially "never leave them on your SD card". So, what happens if you leave image files on the card? The card stops functioning? No, of course not!

Lost all the files on my SD card I tried downloading some trial/free programs but nothing brought back the images I shot today, only older ones. One program was bringing up files dated from 1969, I couldnt see what they were but yikes, cant be mine. I am just sharing my frustration, I really dont think they are able to be saved at this point. I am going to try to recreate a few that I was excited about before I forget what I did. Enjoy your weekend!

You don't say what camera you are using but I would start everthing over, starting with new memory cards. If the camera takes two different kind of cards get at least one each and format both in camera. Do a full reset to factory specs on the camera, check the camera firmware is up to date, reformat both memory cards again, and test. It sounds like you have a corrupt SD card but I'd reset the camera firmware to eliminate the camera as the problem. I'd add another memory card if you have two slots in the camera as cheap insurance. Happy testing.

OK except my slots are two different sizes and I do not have any of the one size, otherwise I can try all that you suggest. All the others files are fine. Here is one that was from today, second card, that did the crazy thing then the next time I tried it they came through fine.

You need to put a coat and scarf on that... it'll freeze its fittings off.

Too many people are preaching about what they do, rather than trying to help her figure out what the problem was.

Before I begin shooting, I ALWAYS format the card(s) I'm using in the camera they are being used in. So far, this has prevented anything like this for me. Best of luck.

I initially format a new card in the camera; delete files via the computer; and put the card back in the camera. I've been doing that for eight years with no problems. So how do you know formatting every time you put the card in the camera has saved you from any problems?

Rescue pro is usually offered free for a year with Sandisk. Call them. I used it before and it works

Excellent advice - problem is, it doesn’t help the immediate problem.

I would try reading the SD card on another computer or may be try seeing the pics in the camera before doing anything else. If you see them in Camera then for sure either the comp has an issue or the card reader. My PC card reader went bad and now I have a plug in card reader I bought on amazon for $15 - $20 dollars. Hope you can see the shots in the camera. Good luck.

However, it was assumed that she stores images on the card.
She doesn't store images on the card, (other than what the camera puts there before...) she pulls the images off the card after each outing.

(Well, images are stored on the card until they can get uploaded.)

Find a store with knowledgeable people. Call the camera and card manufacturers. Obviously some went wrong.

Wow.

So process of elimination.

What do you see with the SD card in the camera?
Have you tried taking a new shot and reviewing it in the camera?

Have you tried that SD card in a different computer? Same result?

Buy an SD card to USB adapter and try that on your computer.

Have you looked at the contacts on the SD card to see if clean and not damaged.

Have you tried a known good (from someone else or one of yours from previously) in the camera? And in your computer?

Buy a new SD card and see if it works.

Make careful notes as you go through this process (worked, didn’t work) and maybe something will jump out at you.

Keep us posted on what you find. Having been in the NAND business I interested in see if you can identify cause.

Wow, that's a very interesting screenshot! I don't have any advice to offer, other than to keep alert over the coming days for other odd things that might transpire in your daily life. It might be the cause is as mundane as dust in your contact points, but just think if this is a desperate message from someone (or something) from the future who is using you as their only hope to save the planet! In which case, "your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to decode these messages and do exactly as they say, in the correct order, if civilization is to have any hope of survival."

Or is might just be a message from your great-grandchildren on Mars, saying "Having a wonderful time, wish you were here!"

Either way, it sounds like you could be in page one of a very interesting sci-fi novel!
