I picked up a hitch-hiker. Seemed like a nice guy. After a few miles he asked me
If I wasn't afraid that he might be a serial killer?
I told him the odds of two serial killers being in the same car was extremely unlikely.
I think he wet his pants.
Back in the day you could hitch a ride without fear for you life. I'd go back to the old days in a minute.

used to "thumb" all over the place.... not today. was always interesting.
I don't pick up hitch hikers. If I want some one to talk to, I bring out one of my many other personalities. LOL

I used to tell people that why I talk to myself is that it is the only way to get an intelligent conversation.
Decades ago, while teaching high school, I had a student by the name of Derick Gerlach. He was an okay student, nothing special. Years later he was convicted and executed for the first degree murder of a nice man who picked up Derick while he was hitch hiking. I thought at the time that had I seen Derick standing by the side of the road, I might have picked him up. Since then I would not give a ride to my own sister. And, I love my sister! I told this story to my sister, and she said she would not pick me up, either! 😁
