I know nothing about lens,,, but my sons want to know what I want for christmas,, I would really like a wide angle lens and a larger telephoto,,,,, without them breaking the bank. But I get confused what is the difference between EF 14mm 1.4 2.8 max appeture and let say an EF 35mm F2 other than price. also I have a canon 60D with an 18 to 135 can you add like a doubler to get 270 from that lens or do you just buy a 70 to 300 or something like that.....I am confused HELP
It all depends what your definition of 'Breaking the bank " is. The key is the F-stop. It tells you how much light the lens will take in. The lower the number, the better. f/1.4 f/2 f/2.8 f/4 ect. This is also talked about in "speed", how fast a lens is. These numbers are more expensive. Price is also affected by focal distance and quality of glass. With canon, the best is "L" glass. The 70-200L f/4 is around $650 without IS (image stabilizer). The 24-75L f/2.8 is around $1400. These two combined is a great kit to have. They will also work on your new canon camera when you update. Canon makes some pretty good non "L" glass and so does tamron. Remember, you get what you pay for!!!
thank you very much the info was helpful
For a wide angle on the 60D the EF 10-22 would be a great addition to your kit.
Keep in mind, the 60D has an APS C sensor, so you can figure a 1.6 factor on your lenses (e.g., a 50 mm lens on your camera will be like an 80 mm lens).
