Hi DWHart24, yeah I only see the lines on download, even more pronounced when you enlarge the pic. Could this be a heat issue. Sensor getting hotter as you use it. What was ambient temp at the time?

Ambient was probably mid to high 50's. I can't imagine it being the heat as I've used this body in much hotter temps for longer periods of time.

I am on my cellphone and I see the lines on download. I like the RC interference theory because with older electronics that was a problem - tv, radio, etc, so I can relate, but I've never seen that problem posted here. Hopefully Nikon will give you an answer.

My guess is it's a circuitry problem.

I'd be sending the image and camera to Nikon.

Bloody spooky image... and bloody spooky model.

In reality many pilots of those fokkers met eternity bloody
and terrified, and were skeletons at a young age.

This problem is eerily similar to one I had a few years ago, when my only camera was a Pentax point-and-shoot. I know, totally different animal, but at first I had the vertical lines, slightly more random than yours, visible only in 'download'. The occurrence was also only random, but increasing.
The problem rapidly accelerated until within a week or so the images had degraded completely.
A quick visit to my local camera guru informed me that my only recourse was to throw $$$$$s at the problem, since my sensor was fried. The camera had been used extensively in Central America, hot , with high humidity.
Had no further problems, with my Nikon D90.

Is it just me? If you look at the white Fokker tailplane there are not just vertical lines but horizontal as well forming a grid pattern . Its as if one of the composition grids is overlaid in to the image.
Sensor overheated ?
Hope Nikon sort it for you,

Could be. My impression of the horizontal lines was that they were stiffeners in the vertical stabilizer/rudder.

I don’t see anything in the download All looks great.
Question for you.... How’s your vision? Been tested lately?

I didn't see it either until I enlarged the photo. That's one of the reasons I don't use my laptop monitor for processing, but have an external monitor hooked up to it.

That was my first impression to which my eye was initially drawn but following the (much fainter) lines out to left and right i then started to see a grid pattern appear. If nobody else can see a grid pattern i"ll go and have another large Merlot !!!

Don't know what it is, but it reminds me of the scan lines on old CRT televisions.

If it's intermittent like this then it's probably workmanship issue with the CCD sub-assembly board. Perhaps mechanical stress or soldering joints stress.
If the camera is still under warranty I would definitely requesting for a replacement.
I have Samsung TV that developed the same vertical lines after 7-8 years. It was not noticeable at first then it's getting worse.

This past weekend I was shooting an event with my Nikon D500 and 200-500mm lens. After a few hours of using it, thin black vertical lines started showing up on the photos. And this was after having lunch. So it wasn't constant use. I tried everything I could think of to narrow down the problem. Both the QXD card and SD card were showing the same results. I tried RAW vs Jpeg. Removed the lens and stuck it back on. Changed from shutter priority to other modes. I stuck in the car and went to my back up body. I went back to the car later and stuck the lens back on the D500 and fired off a few shots to see if the issue had gone away. Sure enough, it was fine. I used this combo the next day with no issues. I've used this combo for almost a year now and have never seen this before. My 4 previous Nikon bodies never had this issue either.

Attached is one of the shots.

Very weird but very noticeable in download. Almost looks as if you took a photo of a canvas print. I agree with the other suggestions of electrical interference, which is usually wavy lines, but just a guess. I'd contact Nikon.

Every other line of data is missing. I suspect you have an intermittent hardware problem. Since both cards showed the same thing that pretty much eliminates the cards. The problem with sending it back is it doesn’t show the problem. It may come back from Nikon with a “no fault found” status.

No doubt it was cooler outside than in the car. The camera warmed up a little bit sitting in the car. You might try letting it cool down outside and see if the problem re-appears. If so you can send it back along with the information that it is intermittent but seems to reappear when the camera is colder.
