You loose NO pixels with CIZ ! - even 2X - and, you loose no light as with a TC ! - you should try it and USE it !

I'm with you imagemeister, I have used CIZ for the years I've had Sony bodies (I have 4), and it works, my TC's sit unused. Next time I shoot I'll have to do a quick compare on MP's in the finished shot. Only because what I have read about CIZ, that it was another form of cropping (digital), but I had never looked to see if the CIZ shots yielded less MP than the same shot without. The Nikon method is a crop, that according to Nikon/and authors takes a cropped shot, but does not shrink or compress pixels, you just get the normal amount in a smaller rectangle, approx. 15.3MP. At any rate, both CIZ and the Nikon 1.3X crop work better than a TC IMHO, on any lenses I've used it on.

From what I've read on Sony forums, a top quality lens like the 300mm F2.8 SSM with a 1.4 TC and 1.3 CIZ yields the best result, better than same lens alone at 2X on CIZ..... but, I don't have that lens or one of that caliber, so I can't comment.

Simple point, I'm sold on Sony CIZ and Nikon in camera 1.3X crop, when I need a quick boost. The ability to make the subject of the shot bigger in the frame with no loss of light or sharpness wins, hands down.

I believe it gives you 600mm at f/8. You lose 2 stops with a 2X.

Sony Clear Image Zoom ....1.1-2X in camera crop and pixel enlargement - no light loss, no pixel loss

OK here’s my last question on this topic, I promise:

On my D7500 on a tripod,
1. I mount a Nikon 200-500mm f/5.6 (FX) and take a picture at 300mm.
2. I unmount that and mount my 70-300mm kit lens (DX) that came with the camera and take a picture at 300mm.

Are the angles of view different or the same and what is the equivalency of each?

Assuming there is no focus breathing with either lens, they should be about the same. 300mm is 300mm no matter what format it’s made for.

Everything I've read on the topic says "Yes", they would be approximately the same, +/- a few MM for manufacturing differences/focus breathing. Concur. You should see that if you do the test.
