For the first time i tried shooting a movie. When I played it back in the camera, it played just fine.
But when I put it in the computer,just the jpegs showed. I have a transend 32gb (10) sd card.
SDHC 1
The manual says its good for movies. Do I need a special program?
Any help would be wonderful. Thanks in advance.

There are lots of video playback programs. Both Apple and Windows have default players. Some say that a free one called VMC is best.

My first guess is that you've not found the file on your camera card for transfer to your computer. Like most, Sony puts it in a different folder on the SD card. Look for .MP4 or .MOV files.

The camera probably has the movie in a file type (.mov, .mp4, etc) that the computer program doesn't recognize.

Bsprague is right except..
It's VLC, not VMC and if not best then it has the ability to play almost any movie file format. It can be downloaded and installed for free on either Windows and/or Mac (even Linux).

If your movie is 4K and your computer is a bit old then you could experience problems when trying to play it but first make sure you have the actual movie file. It's not in the same folder as the JPG's. Use your file manager and look around on the camera's "card" under "clips" which is a sub folder of a sub folder.

Thank you! It is VLC. Somehow the brain and fingers got locked into VMC which is left over from flying. It stands for "Velocity, Minimum Control". It is a speed where, if you go any slower, you can't steer safely!

Hi. If you set up in your camera menu for XAVC S HD or AVCHD your clips will be in XML format.
It will not download on to your desktop like quicktime.
It will download into Mac's Final Cut Pro X editing or Adobe Premiere.
Sony has cheap software Catalyst Prepare, Catalyst Browse that will take your files from the cameras card.
I use Mac's so never tried in PC.
Their are many conversion softwares like pavtube etc Just google it.
Now dont get discouraged this is no big deal. And you can convert to quicktimes (.mov)
I have owned you camera for quite a while. It is an sensational camera. Video is great. 4k video great.
Photos are great. And the lens is superb. You will find yourself amazed by what it can do.
Ken Rockwell the online camera lens guru said he picked up this camera and used it for a few months.
Sony has plenty of how to stuff online. Good luck.

You can set your camera to record in MP4 or XAVC S HD or AVCHD.
Many programs will not open the XAVC S HD or AVCHD files.
There are free programs to convert the XAVC S HD or AVCHD files
to MP4 if that is the problem, or you can use a program which opens
the XAVC S HD or AVCHD files.

On Sony cameras the movies are in a separate folder. Look for the directory PRIVATE/M4ROOT/CLIP.
MP4 movies are stored there.

XAVC S HD on Sony cameras is a really good imagery. I never shoot in MP4.
Just log on to the Sony site for these cameras and download Catalyst Browse I believe.
I say that because they have Catalyst Browse, Edit, Prepare. You should leave the whole folder
container intact. Catalyst Brows will load you clip and you can pre edit your takes before you put
the converted images into your editing. This program is a little goofy but you will get it.
