A view from an hour ago. Along the Colorado, looking upriver from Gold Bottom under light rain.

Very nice, Cany. I really like the tonalities featured here.

Beautiful photograph Cany Around here the rivers remain near flood stage. In light of the water level of the Colorado today, I’d say thank God it’s raining!

Cany143, How is it that your small photo did not have a white frame around it, but when you uploaded the "original" it had a white frame around it? Great Panorama!

Jim, fantastic photo. A DDL show off the detail and is as good as it can get.

Love the scene but any idea why the water is so low here?

The Colorado is presently running at about +/- 2200 cfs, which is pretty normal for this time of the year. It only looks like its running at a trickle because the main channel is out of sight on the other side of the big, sandy sand bar you see. I've accessed this island a number of times from the channel side while doing river trips, but never managed to access it from the river bank side. The accumulated river bed silt holds just too much sub-surface river flow, and a few feet out from the rocky bank you'd sink to your armpits in it like you're trying to walk across quicksand. In April/May, when snow begins to melt in the Rockies, the river will begin to rise, and this 'almost an island' will be more clearly an island again.
