Looking to buy a nikon z6...

Does it matter where to buy it from? Bestbuy has their awesome insurance over it but can i buy from somewhere else like walmart/ nikon.com/amazon and buy seperate insurance through another company? They all have their seperate bundles... opinions/suggestions?

If you want a mirrorless full frame camera, and you want a Nikon Brand. Go for it. Follow advice from those who currently own one. It hasn't been on the market long.

Best buy insurance is worthless

My suggestion would to go through Nikon directly and buy a refurbished unit through them. This is a really great way to save. I believe they also offer extended warranty on refurbs. Lastly, I would have to agree that you should have an added addendum on your homeowners insurance for your gear. With the right policy, it can cover, theft, loss, and accidental damage.

We also maintain a "Emergency Cash" fund in case of Evacs or any situation where ability to get cash could be compromised ( a fairly common hurricane effect ). I won't say where it's buried, or under what mattress (LOL). The "forethought" repair/maintenance emergency accounts and "bug out/sustenance" funds can really make a difference in your ability to function.

I’m glad we don’t face those kinds of issues- I’ve seen the Camp Fire effects in Cali recently. The snowstorms are worth the price. (We can survive quite a while without power, although we’ve never lost it for more than a day)

Some credit card companies will extend the manufacturer’s warranty when you use their credit card to purchase a camera. Often one or two years AFTER the manufacture’s warranty ends as opposed to an extended warranty from the seller that often runs concurrently with the manufacture’s warranty.

Nikon frequently has sales and I have bought 2 cameras directly from them. Wait a few months and Nikon will have refurbs for sale.

Yes, we pay for all that sunshine... and still, thousands a day migrate South to the land of sunshine...…. We can survive too, but it always seems that the days following a hurricane are hot, and my genny is not whole house, can't run a/c. Last time I needed it was 2005, in 04 it ran for 12 days straight, 24/7, we give it about 2 cups of gas and run it for a few minutes twice a year, drain it and put it away. It waits for its chance yo shine!!

I wouldn't put too much faith in Best Buy's insurance. Reliable dealers - Adorama, Amazon, B&H, Cameta, Costco, Crutchfield, Hunt’s, Robert’s

I am just curious. Have you had a bad experience with Best Buy?

A lot of credit cards have extended warranty's - Visa for example on some cards will double the manufacturers warranty up to an extra year - You can purchase extended warranty's from them - check with your credit card issurer

Go reputable dealer. I made the mistake with AoM. Got up sold on stuff that was better faster stronger faster-er. No kidding! When it did arrive, it was the same gear the damn camera should have came with in the first place. Live and learn. At least I was able to warranty the camera. They didn't sell me a Grey market, but not honest on all fronts....

if you can wait a few days...B&H in New York is great. Best Buy is ok, but you will pay taxes and shipping depending where you live, or pick it up yourself!!. I live in Californication where we are going to outlaw cameras now also, the EARTH decided it doesn't want it's picture taken in any way shape or form. And the attorneys added "anything on it" also....drinking straws, plastic bags. Where does the stupidity end. Obviously recycling doesn't work when I get a family of four pilfering through my garbage cans every Thursday. One man's trash

Be sure to add the Nikkor F to Nikkor Z lens adapter (Model FTZ ?) in the same order. Nikon currently knocks $100 USD off the $249 price when bought together with the body. You are quite likely to want to add one or two lightly used Nikkor F lenses before Nikon fills out the Nikkor Z lens selection.

I avoid Best Buy. They tend to be over-priced and under-knowledgeable.

I also would never buy a camera from Walmart or Costco. They only stock the most basic kits. There's much better selection elsewhere.

I do buy stuff via Amazon. Mostly only Amazon Direct. I avoid unknown sellers there.

Best sources are Adorama, B&H Photo, Beach Camera, Henry's (Canada), and a few others. These dealers sometimes show up on Amazon and/or Walmart.com... I'd have no problem buying from them there too.

Agree with first two sentences, then; No offense meant but - I don't quite get your rant - Outlaw cameras - you mean red light cameras, dash cams, security cams? Be specific, I've seen no reports of anything else.. Drinking straws and plastic bags, well if the public could act responsibly with these pollutants rather than just throwing them everywhere, (same with cig butts), it wouldn't be an issue. I'm not in Cali, but I think the stuff needs to be controlled (we are making a mess of our planet for profit by a few) just look out in the Pacific Ocean for the answer. Residents of Florida toss enough trash, and tourists add to it. All that plastic crap will haunt us for centuries as it takes forever to break down, all for extra profit by the oil/chemical corporations/shareholders.

Family going through your garbage; Maybe talk to the family going through your garbage, maybe they need help, I doubt they choose to eat garbage. Just saying.
