Ink jet printer ink is frequently falsely claimed to be the most overpriced fluid in common use. However, it's far from true since the markup averages 300% while coffee in convenience stores and coffee shops average markup is 2.900% of cost and a glass of soda pop in a restaurant average markup is 1,900%

The last time I bought a complete set of Epson ink cartridges for my Epson XP-830 printer it set me back $100. $100!!! Comparateandsave.com offers compatible ink cartridges for this printer for only a little more than half that price. Has anyone had experience buying ink jets from this business and, if so, how do they work? Does anyone have a suggestion on another place to buy ink jets?

I use an Epson Surecolor sc p600 and Marrutt inks. Fraction of the cost of Epson inks and superb colours provided you calibrate and use accurate profiles. Have a look at www.marruttUsa.com. I buy from the UK address but same USA manufactured product. Can't speak too highly of the company and its products.

Do you use the continuous ink system?

All you have to do is go with a quality HP printer and sign up for their ink replenishment program. I pay $9.00/month. They ship free, I never run out and it works GREAT!

Right on Dan. I had big Epson 4000 (?) and many Epsons. The last being the 2880 which was flaky
with paper in and used up ink really fast. I had Epson all-in=ones and 3 has to go back.

I discovered the HP deal and the rep in a store convinced me. A great printer and the cartridges
supply for 10 bucks a month great. Had graphics and production businesses and the old Epson
were great. Could output layouts and do business printing. The HP officepro 8710 is so reliable.
I was shocked when I put some HP glossy paper in to print photos and the image quality was great.
I never considered it a graphics photo printer but I was wrong. They gave me 6 months free
for an issue a while back.

No, I use the refillable cartridges. No experience of their continuous system. Marrutt offer a starter pack of a set of cartridges, inks, filler syringes etc. You need to establish a routine for checking levels as running a cartridge dry can cause problems. Simple solution is to top up regularly. I'm not on commission even if it sounds like it but I do like the Marrutt system. I'm sure there are others just as good and I'm also sure there are plenty of cheap and nasty 3rd part ink systems that disappoint those seeking a lower cost alternative to the OE manufacturers offering.

I would never consider it for my Canon Pro-10 printer, but I might consider it for the Brother printer I have. I hate that printer and if this ink kills it, I won't shed a tear. I bought the Brother all-in-one as an office printer because it came with a years supply of ink. It does seem to use less ink than the Canon all-in-ones I have had in the past and it does a good enough job for office stuff; but don't try a picture on it; plus it can't print on vellum unless I trick it. Also, it has a FAX function that I can't get to work and other technical problems. Canon or Epson for me from now on. Epson has a continuous ink system printer (ET-2750) that comes with two years worth of ink for $250; so this might be a solution for the OP. I have no idea how good a picture would be since there are only 3 color tanks and 2 black ones.

Thanks for sharing.

EDIT: as a side note, even the cheapest Canon all-in-one does a good job on pictures. I had a $59 Pixma Canon printer and it did everything I needed. I used OEM ink the first 2 or 3 years, then switched to 3rd party ink to "save" money. The first set was fine, but halfway into the 2nd set it stopped working. Nothing could fix it. I had to buy another printer, $129 this time. I did the same thing with a different 3rd party ink and had the same results. YMMV

One other point I didn't mention but Marrutt supply a cleaning solution for blocked printer heads where ink and paper dust have accumulated and gone hard. This can happen if the printer is inactive for long periods. I've even known of printers being discarded as it was assumed they would cost too much to repair when a simple cleaning would do the job. Guess like most things it often comes down to good housekeeping. Hope you find the answers you're looking for.

Good to know. Thank you for that. We all know that the ink cost more than the printer! That dust ruins everything.

I know nothing about that company. However, I have bought lots of Canon and HP compatible inks from LD Products and have never had a problem and save about half...
