I was so excited to be able to (unexpectedly) capture these images! I was on the beach with my husband, snapping shots of him fishing, when all of the sudden I looked up and this was happening! The eagle had the seagull, which I thought was cool enough, but then he dropped him and recaptured him! (I had no idea an eagle would even eat a seagull.) He then took him to his perch and all we saw were feathers flying (while another eagle sitting in a tree nearby looked on.) These are cropped considerably; (too much???) I was using my 70-200 lens.
The last shot looks like the eagle has the seagulls. Is that true or just a branch?
Outstanding action series!
Wow. You were in the right time and place. Excellent captures. In all my years of living in seagull and eagle land, I have never been lucky enough to see this. You are right about the feathers flying. It looks like snow falling when the eagle plucks a seagull.

Yes, he had the seagull. He recaptured him and took him to the tree and had him for dinner!

Thank you! My husband was standing near me trying to draw my attention to the crane that was REALLY wanting his fish, unaware of what was happening over our heads. I wasn't even sure of what I had just seen- I couldn't tell what it was for sure- until I came in and loaded them on my computer. My husband couldn't believe he missed it! (he LOVES eagles).
Nice catch -- by both you and the eagle!
Multiple atta-girls. I have your whole 30 second sequence in my mind, great job!
Great set of photos! Very interesting behavior!
Eagles are notorious thieves. I watched an eagle fight an osprey for dinner stole the osprey's lunch. Of course I didn't have a camera ready for that. First time I heard of and eagle taking a sea gull home for dinner. Well there ae plenty of gulls...
Great shots! Thank you for sharing.
