That first shot PhotoLady is a real stunning image. Worthy of a Metal Print.

What MOST of 'All that Pollution' is, is Steam! - (It's a Steam Locomotive) - (that burns coal)

Given that most of that is steam, some of it is anything but steam. Several years ago we rode the Cumbres & Toltec from Chama to Antonito. My car had white Naugahyde upholstery when we first arrived in Chama. After the train ride when we got back in the car, I was surprised by the amount of black soot we had accumulated on our bodies and clothing, MUCH of which immediately transferred to that white upholstery.

None-the-less, a delightful train ride!

And great pictures!

A sadness comes over me - the home state, Colorado. My wife and I too cannot take the high country anymore. Our two daughters still live there in Loveland. An old penpal had a trailer on a site near one of the rivers. Haven't heard from him in a long time, I called the county Mounty for a wellness check. He was found on the floor of his trailer. They were able to bring him around and into hospice care. He died a few months later. May the name of Philip Kaiser go on and on....
Your photography is superb. This one here is among the favorites. Thanks for posting.

When I rode the Durango-Silverton train that lovely steam also rained down cinders so you were advised to wear glasses. We all are glad technology has changed, but these old coal-powered engines do help us experience the past so it isn't as quickly forgotten. It's not like they're everywhere.
