i too am scooter bound,i have tried a monopod between my knees on the scooter bed. on a good day it works.my other solution is to carry a camp stool, set it up near the scooter and a regular tripod works.

I have an odd situation I'd appreciate some suggestions for. I'm just entering the world of photography and am gathering my tools slowly. I am now looking towards a tripod. I would like to keep my cost to $150 or under if possible. My situation is I use an electric scooter to get around as I can't walk long distances. I love to take pictures of just about anything but the times I need a tripod can be difficult since the front legs that will be on the ground, need to be taller than the rear leg that will sit on the floor of my scooter. I believe that with practice I can figure out how to set that up but my question is two fold. First, is there a type/brand of tripod that may make this configuration a bit simpler and still be in my price range? And second, since the legs will be on different levels, any suggestions to keep them from slipping/sliding?

Thanks for reading and any suggestions you may have.

My friend who I go shooting with uses an electric cart, and we both purchased the Gorilla she wraps it around her handle bars of the scooter and it does the trick. In fact when we go to places I cannot use my tripod (rules of the place) and I will use the Gorilla on my shoulders to steady the camera I will look for the web site and send it... It is under $150. Also we shoot a lot from the vehicle...

I agree with Danilo - you do NOT want to have to monkey around with tripod legs and your scooter.
Use the Scooter as your platform and mount a sturdy camera support (with quick release) TO the scooter !

That was my first thought - mount a ballhead onto the scooter, and make it easily removable.

okay, here is a Web site so you can see what I am talking about http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/633362-REG/Joby_GP3_BHEN_Gorillapod_SLR_Zoom_Flexible_Mini.html

The one he is demonstrating is a smaller version I think so look for the one that will hold your camera... I think Adorama probably carrys it. If you live in a city, most Camera stores carry it so you can feel it and have a good look at it. I know that we paid less that $100 and it will hold my Nikon D90 with a Zoom lens.... Good luck and enjoy stopping to shoot.

I believe that if you do a goggle search for (something like) tripod attachment for chair, you might find the companies that make these attachments. I remember someone in another group asking about something for a wheelchair and we helped her find something this way.

If your scooter has some handlebar room, Manfrotto has a thing called a Super Clamp. This can clamp to the handlebar of the scooter, and you can install a moderate priced ball head to that.

Check on GPS mounting systems and mounting systems for motorcycles. Look a lot, buy once.

Danilo and Merlin both have great thoughts! Would a monopod be of any use to you?

Another option is the Manfrotto window mount. I will clamp onto a partially lowered car window. I know it won't address your problem while on the scooter but you might find it useful when you are still in the car.

Man, I would not want to clamp a DSLR to my car window! It probably works OK, but I'd never use it.
