I agree; however, re the gushing, we have to remember that some folks come into FYC via "upcoming topics" or perhaps a link from another topic. Some are not prepared to offer feedback and may have no interest in doing so. And also we need to remember that just because someone gushes it doesn't mean they are not sincere.
Many times people have said positive comments to me and if they included the "why," it helped me see a new pov - through their eyes.
I used to get in trouble with one of the critique forum moderators, lighthouse, when I would open a bunch of tabs of new topics in my browser and then not notice which section I was in before giving my gush or semi-gush. He would just delete my comments with no warning or notification
So that's another thing I like about FYC's less rigid format; comments can be few words or many.

There's a name I remember. If I recall correctly he had no problem at all when the gushing was for one of his few posted photos by other moderators.

Misty water-colored memories of the way we were
good observation. As a guy with a couple of published mystery novels to my name I learned you have to have a thick skin when you put anything out in public whether it is words, images, paintings, performing a song or anything else. People have a very wide range of responses to your work. In my experience they range from loved it, neutral about it and don't care, hate it. You might notice that two out of the three general responses aren't good for the author/performer/photographer's ego! LOL...If you put it out there wear the hide of a rhino and filter the crap out for the things which have merit in your eyes or teach you something you need to learn. Not easy but it is possible.
