I wish they finally get it done, instead of talking about it for years and years!
Sears the father of Amazon! I have no pity for Sears!/nor Kmart. Martha Stewart should have purchased Kmart and call it MarthaK. Why didn't you start the electronic catalog?
I've been told that Craftsman tool warranties are only honored with receipts nowadays. Who keeps receipts from past tool sales?
The end of an era has come.
Back in the late 80's, when Sears was still selling furniture, I purchased a sectional sofa that came with a "Limited Lifetime Warranty". 5 or 6 years later, the recliner mechanism broke. I contacted Sears and they wouldn't repair it. I contacted Sears corporate headquarters, and they were no help at all.
Sears had been our "Go-To" place for shopping. My motto is "Screw me once, shame on you. Screw me TWICE, shame on ME." I've only set foot in Sears 3 or 4 times since then. BYE-BYE Sears!

Think dinosaurs....think Kodak....think Sears.
Apparently the leadership of Walmart were the valedictorians of the class.
That is true. I think Sears could be today's Amazon with proper management.
Stanley bought Craftsman Tools.

Craftsman tools were owned and sold by Sears since 1927. Craftsman tools are owned now by Stanley Black & Decker, and sold by Lowe's Store. I'm certain they have the same replacement warranty, as it was with Sears.
The tool was warranted by Sears. Sears lived up to their claim then sent the tool to the manufacturer against invoices. Who the manufacturer of those tools may be, never offered a warranty.
Stores come and go. If they cant compete they will fail, simple as that.
Sears was great until after the war. But Sears did themselves in by poor management. When I was young it was the place to go to. But then I found out their catalog dept. wasn't all that great. often they were out of an item you ordered and had to wait weeks before you received it. Also their customer relations became very poor. Once I ordered a dryer and the cord didn't come with it. By the time I got it I was billed twice for it and they wouldn't make amends. So it was many years before I set foot in a Sears store again. Today, the Sears near me has only an appliance dept. and a tool department with a smattering of other goods. Its closing this summer.

Lowes is now selling the craftsman brand. Do thay honor the lifetime guarantee? Worked for a construction outfit between semesters. We purposfully broke a craftsman open-ended wrench, they happily gave us another one.
I have no yay or nay to say about Sears closing. In 1987 my house burned. I always like Sears appliances so I went to the Sears store in the next town and told them that I needed a new catalog to order everything in a house. I didn't think I'd have to explain that my catalog burned, but I added that info anyway. I was told that a new catalog would cost $14.95. It did no good for me to remind them that I bought a lot from Sears and I always got the free catalog yearly. The said "Sorry, that'll be $14.95." I told them "Sorry, it's not the price of the catalog, it's the idea that it will probably mean sales of at least $45,000 to $50,000 and I can find all those items elsewhere." ...and I did.

You must be a young man. Lowes only started selling Craftsman tools in mid-2018.

"Stanley Black & Decker is building a bigger retail footprint for Craftsman tools: the iconic tool brand will soon be available at Lowe's stores.
The tool maker will begin selling Craftsman products including power tools, wrenches, and mowers at the home-improvement chain during the second half of next year, Stanley Black & Decker announced Tuesday" This was announced in USA Today October 2017
