Best professional camera?
Hi,
What is the best professional small&light-digital-camera to travel and shoot with?
Thanks. Dan
That's an Oxymoron really, most "professional" cameras are bigger and heavier than their Consumer or Prosumer relatives. As for what is the "best" it totally depends on what you are planing to shoot and where. Everyone has a favorite make and model to recommend so expect a million different replies :-)
Yeah, wow. So many variables. Do you want a big zoom? Does it need to fit in your pants or shirt pocket? In any case, it won't be a professional camera.
But, if a fixed lens rangefinder is good with you, the fairly compact Fuji X-100 is getting a lot of attention from pros, and I'm seeing stunning images in many photo blogs. It's tops on my personal lust list.
I've been a pro for more than 20 years using mostly Caonon SLR's &* DSLR's. But I'm telling ya, if you want something small, handy, great zoom, fantastic quality I can strongly recommend the Sony Cybershot DSC-T100 8.1MP Digital Camera with 5x Optical Zoom and Super Steady Shot (RIP. I left it on the roof of my car when I took off one day..... sob...) It may have a slightly different model # by now.... this one would be about 3 years old by now; it was the latest release at the time. I really miss it. ~Dan
The Canon G series (particularly the G9 - G12) gets a lot of attention on the photography pod casts I listen to. I've never used either one, but they say they're really good for a small light alternative to a DSLR.
I have a G-9. Worthless in low light, 400 ISO and above. But a great day camera and a joy to use.
Once you get into professional camera the smallest you are going to get would be the Canon 5DMkII (21Megapixels full frame) or the Nikon D700 (24Megapixels full frame). These are both about $2,500. You still need to buy a quality lens to put on it and that won't be light or cheap. As someone said earlier is that you won't have bolth worlds, light and cheap and professinal camera. The Nikon D3s and the Canon 1DMkIII are the two top selling professional cameras. They are both $5,000 plus and weigh about 3 pounds. As I have said earlier in these discussions decide what you are going to use the camera for and depending on your budget, shop around.
Any of the top brands is a good bet. What really matters is "the system" and not "the camera". Once you bought into a brand, stick to it. You will be able to buy additional items that will be fully compatible and complementary to your existing hardware.

I have a "NEW" Nikon L120 14.0 megapixel camera & I love it. easy to use & multiple settings which are very easy to set.
I am waiting for the reviews to come out on the new Canon G13 camera. I love travel photography - especially people in different cultures. What I like about this camera is that it has the varie-angle lens (so people don't realize you are taking their photo; it is light weight and has a hot shoe for an external flash, and will shoot in raw. I think it comes out sometime this month. It is a high end point and shoot since the lens don't change. My last trip I took my Canon 40D and it was too heavy for me to carry around. It is a great camera for my camera club outings and family photos but too much for travel.

If you are a professional spy then yeah your camera is small and you do use it when you travel
Don't use the <Last> button to find and re-start 10-year old zombie theads ...
Too funny Paul...
And so appropriate!

A 10 year old thread? If the OP hasn't picked out a camera yet, he probably never will.

I don't know how it came out on top.
