Have you looked in the App Store?

Any Post Processing suite - Lightroom, Affinity, GIMP, etc. will edit these images. Pick an app and learn it. The source of the image doesn't matter as much...

All are pretty decent. I'm a Lightroom fan, but others disagree, sometimes vehemently. Whatever program you use to edit your DSLR / Mirrorless photos will also work well with iPhone photos. In my opinion, learning the app is still the most important attribute; the Apple photo app is decent, bt not nearly as useful as the serious photo editing apps.

There is an app called Pro Camera. It gives you more controls than the built in camera feature. It's easy to use, too. What it doesn't give you is a better zoom. Sorry, but we're stuck with what comes with the iPhone camera.
Try 645 pro. A lot of control.
Another vote for Snapseed. I’ve been using it for years, and it just keeps getting better. Many, many adjustments. Try the hdr setting; you can choose the intensity by sliding your finger. Works very well. Among the adjustments is the ability to add text to a shot, and to make a double/multiple exposure.
Lots of folks like Snapseed. It’s an app that loads onto your phone and you can do the editing right there.

Pro Camera is a good app that basically allows you to override your iPhone’s auto function and shoot in manual. Can’t change aperture of course except by switching between your two lenses.
There is another app called Focus that takes advantage of the dual lenses. It gives you a 3D image of your subject and allows you to digitally blur background or foreground and also digitally change aperture. It only works on photos either taken through the Focus app or photos taken in portrait mode on your I-Phone
Everything in magenta on the 3D image below will be blurred. You move the slider at the bottom to adjust starting point of out of focus. There is also a slider bar to adjust front out of focus. It’s a fun app to play with on dual lens shots. I am surprised app developers have not come up with more ways to take advantage of the dual lenses Of iPhones.

Topaz has an app called "AI gigapixel" that will really enhance the images from an iPhone. It operates as a stand-alone and adds details, etc to iPhone snaps making them look like DSLR images. Also works for any small sized sensor cameras too.
Any camera is better than no camera.
(Real men know that.

FiLMiC Pro is an amazing program for shooting 4K video on the iPhone X. You can shoot 4K video without it and use the native version that comes with the iPhone but FiLMiC Pro deals with the shortcomings of the native program. It's not free but I found it to be worthwhile.
Photoshop Express is free and available at the app store.
