First, a belated Merry Christmas to all!!

I am looking for a wireless (radio) shutter release for my Nikon D7100. I am tired of fighting with my ir release in bright light. I used the search function and the most recent discussion was in 2103. I remember some releases being mentioned in discussions of wireless flash control, but looking through recent ones has been fruitless. I am seeking input from UHHers that have and use radio shutter triggers. I do have a WAU-1 (?) bluetooth unit from Nikon, but I have found it painfully slow when I tried to use it to communicate with me iPhone, so I would also be open to phone app options as long as they don't download photos to my phone.

Thank you in advance for any input.

May you have a happy and prosperous New Year!!

Bill

I have used both the Yongnuo rf-603 and yn-622 series to act as a radio shutter release for my D7000 and D750. I'm sure they will work just fine with the D7100. The 603 series is only $30 a pair and the 622 series will cost around $75 a pair.

Thank you, I have a couple of Yongnou radio flash triggers that I have been happy with the few time I used them.

Thanks, I saw this one during my searches and it might be a bit expensive for the number of times I anticipate using it.

I have tethered occasionally, but this would be for those times went I would be in the picture or just out of sight, usually outdoors.

I also have a 7100 and just got a Vello Freewave Plus from Santa. I will try and get back to you with the results although all research save one review is positive for this release.

I also use a couple of Vello Freewave plus sets for my cameras and they are very dependable. If you hurry, you can pick a set up at B&H for half price during their 2 day end of year sale.

I have the Cactus version 6 and they work great. They are brand agnostic and can control remote flashes output from the camera.

I use a Yongnuo RF-603N on my D7100. I bought it on ebay--it didn't cost much, but it works great.

I use an inexpensive Vello Frewave Wireless remote for my Nikons. B&H had them on sale for like $30, and it works fine.

This is what I use, too. I've disposed of my Nikons, but with the appropriate cords they work just fine with my Olympus OMD E-M1 and E-M1 MkII, and I expect they'll do so with the Lumix G9 I have on order. They were certainly WAY better than the IR thing that comes with the Nikon cameras.

These units have the benefit of a second hot shoe on top of the unit, which carries through the flash signals from the camera. So when I want to use the Yongnuo controller to manage flashes on light stands, I just slide it onto the top of the radio control unit on the camera. (Maybe all of these remote control devices have this setup, but I've only seen and used the Yongnuos.)

I second the choice of the yn-622. Be sure to go to YouTube to set it up. The instruction sheet is nearly worthless.
