I was under the impression that there used to be meetup tours in the Everglades. Is this still happening? If so, are there any details for 2019? This place is definitely on my bucket list.
Thanks
Same here. Please keep me posted
I'm hearing possibilities of late January for a few in Fakahatchee area and Sanibel. Maybe Gregory will chime in.

For you local Florida people, i am going to South Florida the first week of Jan and would like to do an Airboat tour of the Everglades (and get some nice photos while I am at it).
A few years back I took one out of the Fort Lauderdale area. It was fun but the Airboat was huge and we didn't go very far from the dock (a few miles maybe).
Can anyone suggest a good tour company?? I am perfectly willing to drive over to Everglades city or elsewhere. My daughter is interested in seeing some Manatees

I took a captain Andy’s tour a couple years ago and thought it was nice.
Shark Valley, the NE part of the Everglades out of Hway 41 West and about 20 miles off Miami has been my favorite for years to photograph birds. They have airboat rides that last one hour. I have never taken one.
Other places near by, toward the East from the park also have airboat rides. Talk to any Micosukee indian in the area and you will get the best information that there is. They also conduct airboat rides.
I have been also to the SW part of the park near Florida City but I have not been very lucky there photographing birds. At the end of the road inside the park is Flamingo. I know there are caimans there because I have seen them. Manatees could be anywhere a hit and miss unless there is a specific place to watch them that I am not aware of it. Peak season in the Everglades are January and February.
I have mentioned here before visiting a ranger friend stationed in Shark Valley many years ago. At that time it was possible to walk miles into the glades and tour lots of individual ecosystem islands (hammocks) where amazing tree snails with very bright colored shells are different on each island. I'm not sure this walking tour can still be safely done, but if you tour by airboat, try to stop and walk around on the hammocks.

I’ve been on airboat rides but can’t really recommend one operator over any other. However, if your daughter wants to see manatees there are better places than the Everglades to see them. In addition to the sites listed in the following link, FPL has a viewing area in West Palm Beach. You can also snorkel with them in Crystal River.

Wooten's is good , but I suggest you hire them for the group. The standard tour is only 30 minutes or so and as someone else said doesn't go very far.

You want to go out and take nature pictures from a machine that generates an obscene noise level and is full of humans? Maybe Florida wildlife is all deaf by now.... Good luck.
