I use and like Arsenal with my Nikon D850. It's definitely more reliable that my frustrating attempts to consistently connect Nikon's "Snapbridge" app. Connecting my iPhone to Arsenal is a no-brainer and seamlessly connects every time. No need to got to iPhone > Settings. I have not used all of Arsenal's features since the D850 has several of them, which I wouldn't activate remotely anyway. However, basic picture taking & downloading is simple. One interesting feature is Arsenal's vibration detection. When new Arsenal firmware was released, Arsenal automatically downloaded and installed it. If "Snapbridge" was reliable, I'd use it since it works without external gear. Arsenal is has to be attached and plugged into my camera, which is one more thing to twiddle with. Bottom line: I like it and carry it in my overpacked camera bag.

I plan on buying Arsenal when it adds focus stacking for my Sony A7RII. They need to add a lot of functions and fix bugs before it is completely functional on my camera. They tell me that it's going to take a while before these issues are resolved.

I'm in the crowd that bought one, it was finally delivered. I downloaded the software, read the online instructions, charged the battery, attached it to my camera, took two pictures and set it on the shelf where it still sets. Why in the world did I spend the money to do something I have fun doing myself?? I think it was the magic letters, "AI". Oh well, live and learn.

Bob I just looked at the Arsenal commercial on YouTube. My thoughts were exactly the same as yours. I might as well pay someone to go somewhere and take photos for me. While the commercial shows beautiful photographs being taken, my thought instantly went to, taken by who, me or some automated machine.

People here on UHH complain about others constantly buying high priced DSLR's and then putting them on Auto to get good photos. I have absolutely no problem with people doing that. It is their money and they can do as they please. But, as with you, I like to take photos my way and with the knowledge of photography that I have. Most are great with a few, not so much. But they are mine.

I notice there are already a couple of people who are chastising you, saying you are rude for your comment, that I am agreeing with. Again, I have no problem with people spending their money on whatever they want. But there is the other side that you and I, and others are on, that says, I want to be in control of my photography. There is nothing wrong with that either.

Thank you for exposing an opposing view. It isn't rude at all, just another view. Too bad some are offended a bit too easily these days.

Good shooting to you,

Dennis

Once you learn the simple procedure to initiate it every time Snapbridge works fine. Unfortunately it isn’t the procedure Nikon has in the camera or networking manuals.

My Z6 has automatic focus stacking. Something none of the reviews mention.

Agree. I use of Arsenal as a remote control with the ability for me to control settings and focus, not a device that decides for me how the camera should be set. Example: Sony "Smart Remote Control". If Nikon's "Snapbridge" worked as advertised, I wouldn't want Arsenal. If you neet only a remote wireless shutter release, there are cheaper alternatives.

I too was puzzled by the thread until I went back for the download.

I wish I knew the "secret". I've read/followed several tutorials, including one on UHH, with unreliable results. I'd love to love Snapbridge which would give me control without extra "stuff".

Exactly. I invested in getting one through kickstarter almost two years ago. Finally received mine this past August. It’s buggy, and really is just a gimmick.

Don’t waste your money. I don’t know what I was thinking when I bought this. Just yet another reminder that I'm not perfect.

Here is the procedure:

1. Turn off phone wifi.
2. Turn on phone and camera bluetooth.
3. Turn camera off.
4. Start Snapbridge on phone for selected camera.
5. Turn camera on.

Works every time. May not need step 3.

I think step 1 is what Nikon neglects.

When done you need only turn off bluetooth on camera. Snapbridge turns off wifi.

That's great! I'm really interested in the focus bracketing function rather than stacking as I would merge the image on my computer using Helicon Focus. I'm aware that a number of cameras now have this feature including many Panasonic and Olympus cameras and the Nikon D850, Z 6 and Z 7. Unfortunately, I need to focus bracket the old fashioned way.

I also bought one and it has arrived. I have it out of the box and have been looking at it and looking at the training stuff. I bought it for lightning strikes and long shutter releases more than what my Nikon will do plus time lapses and a few other things that looked interesting to try. has been cloudy and with no lightning in the offing have not had a chance to play with it yet but looking forward to trying it. I am particularly interested in landscape photography with the automated stacking feature - We'll see. Hope to get out with it in January to see how it does.

Hey will it carry the 8x10 up the hills and down the trails? Adjust the exposure settings and ground glass focus?
