I would like to start a Photo a Walk For The Disabled. My son started to learn how to use my Canon EOS Rebel 2000. He graduated to using my Canon 5D Mark II before he passed away. I knew he had abilities beyond his disabilities. In his honor I would like to gather people who would like to photograph some of the streets in New York City. They would have their own cameras and I would need some photographers willing to donate their time. It may be a big leap for some to try photography. For photographers they would need patience and the desire to teach others.
I admire your efforts and best of luck accomplishing your goal.
Jeff from LA
What a great idea. Please PM (private message) me thru UHH so we can talk.

Dear BJW: I'm not sure how to do a private message. I'm new at ugly hedgehog. I could give you my e-mail address.would that work for you.
Unfortunately, I live in Florida. Otherwise, I would be most happy to volunteer. I have been an education my entire professional life, and an avid "catcher of photons" since the age of 12. I believe that introducing a new hobby, and an outlet to explore the environment with a group of like-minded individuals, is a wonderful opportunity for the disabled.
Kudos and good luck on your venture.

Scruples, what an awesome idea and I hope you can make it happen. Even though I am somewhat disabled I would offer my help but I live in Raleigh, NC and can not make it to NYC. Best of luck to you.

The mayor of NYC have folks on staff that work with folks with disabilities. You really need to contact their offices. They may be a real help for you and have contacts for you that would make your idea come to life. And, they may already have a program.

Excellent idea.
I live in Acworth, GA near Atlanta. If it proves to be a success, perhaps you will consider a sattelite location, in which I will consider helping you set up.
Good for you! My son worked with People with Disabilities for years. Let's call it Adapted Photography. NYC should have some support for you, Check the Dept. of Education, too. Also look around for orgs like Disabled Sports USA. They do sporting and outdoor events and are connected with support and funding and could be a source of participants, too. The Wounded Warrior project also has some resources you may find valuable. As for Adaptations, the manufacturers, CanikonY etc. may have some stuff to help. Also, QUickie--the sports wheelchair and some of the other similar firms may e able to help too.
We used to use one Instructor and one helper per student when teaching skiing. The more able bodies available, the more you can do.
You've inspired me. I'll go check out my local resources and see if they want to play with photography. Today's phones are so good that no extra equipment is needed to get started.
Wonderful idea. Perhaps Scott Kelby (he does an international photo walk every year) might be interested in helping to set things up. Perhaps UHH might be interested in having a section for disabled photographers where we can share hints and ideas about coping without quitting.
I live in Larchmont, NY would be glad to help
What a wonderful idea. I hope it works out for you. I would love to do that here in La.
Wonderful idea. There has to be Photo clubs with photogs who would like to help. The city or county government is a great place to start as well. Perhaps you need to describe the disabilities....developmental or physical. Two very different challenges and skill sets for people assisting. It is a worthy cause for sure. Not to add to the mix but some sort of exhibition of the photos would be great too. Live in California or I’d participate
