rmorrison, I will try harder to be as perfect as you seem to be

I believe I've figured it out. I don't know how much you actually read here at the UHH but there are people who have appointed themselves the official UHH spelling police. I am not one of them.
In recent conversations there has been a common theme as far as spelling is concerned, the correct spelling of the singular and plural versions of "lens".
Although the spelling variants are limited, the posting I referenced was the first time I have seen "lenes". My response was not of a malicious nature nor was it of a corrective nature. I was simply remarking that was the first time I have seen that particular spelling. If you are so incredibly thin skinned that you interpreted my reply as a personal attack or insult, then the UHH probably isn't a social media website you will do well on. There are far, far grumpyer older men than myself here and many of them have little else to do than seek out the timid amongst us and chew them up and spit them out.

I read a lot. My favorite author is Terry Pratchett [rip]
I have owned 7 Harley Davidson Motorcycles, The first one I bought when I was 16 was a 61 ci Knuclehead for 350 dollars, My last was a 1953 panhead, It was made the same year I was.
I sold it when my first daughter was born, I figured she needed a dad more, than I needed a scooter.
I have owned dressers and bar burners. Everyone of them rebuilt in my kitchen, every winter, by me.
I did continue to stretch and rake frames. Do Custom builds. Until I retired, I was a Union Pipefitter welder. Frames were for fun and profit.
As far as photography goes, I had sold prints and been paid for events.
I have a working knownledge of my cameras, but I have learned, I can always learn more.
So please forgive me for misspelling lenses

I wonder if maybe my 450D would be old enough to do better autofocus with this lens. I think I’ll try it.

I responded with the reason I mentioned "lenes". If you go back and re-read what I wrote, I believe you will find the words, that's a new one, as in reference to the recent various different spellings of lens. What you won't see is any form of correction. If you feel I was correcting you, you are wrong. I don't care if you misspelled the word, or that you did. I was simply commenting on another variation of the word. Absolutely no malice intended.
The only motorcycles I've ever owned that needed to be periodically rebuilt were my dirt bikes, a Kawasaki 350 Bighorn and a Yamaha DT400. I've never owned a Harley Davidson motorcycle, never wanted one. My first Street bike was a 1972 Ducati 450. My last 3 motorcycles have been Honda Goldwing's, a 1998 GL1500, 2013 GL1800 and currently a 2018 GL1800, photo attached. I have three daughters, one who rode her own motorcycle, a Kawasaki Vulcan 500, which now belongs to her mother, my wife. My first camera was a black 1970s Konica C35 followed by a Canon AE-1 followed by a Canon A-1. My first digital camera is the Sony Mavica CD-300 followed by a Canon 10D; still have them and they still work. In all I have 14 Canon and 2 Nikon DSLR'S and at least 6 high end Canon bridge cameras.
I recently retired after working 38 and a half years as a computer programmer and software developer. My current favorite author is Scott Kelby. I have done numerous paid photo jobs including parties, weddings, receptions and documentation projects, but photography was never my main source of income or even a major source of income, so I am not a professional photographer, semi-pro maybe but not a professional.

Like you, I never owned a Harley and never wanted one. Had plenty of other M/Cs which included Honda Goldwings, Valkyries and other Hondas, Kawasakis and Suzukis.
There is no noise ordinance in this area so it seems as if all the Harley owners like to remove the mufflers on their bikes so they can make as much noise as possible. My bedroom is in front of the house, facing the street. There is a stop sign right in front of my house. There was a time not long ago when a HD rider would pull up to that stop sign every night at 1:00 o'clock in the morning and when the inconsiderate Harley Pig (or do they prefer 'Hog') was ready to go, he would practically twist the throttle off making enough noise to wake the dead. I could still hear that pile of crap when it was still a half mile away or farther. That lasted for a few weeks before he stopped showing up. I don't know what happened but maybe he crashed his bike.

Hello, bumping this for those interested in seeking lens facts that may cross this discussion:

There were at least 3 Canon EF 100-300's;
the L version here with a 15 element in 10 groups, a fluorite element in the first group and a UD element in the second group. Then there was one without the red stripe; 15 elements in 9 groups and no UD or Fluorite elements at all. If you have to judge which is better then please ask a lot more questions before you do decide?

There was a later USM version in 1990, all new design 13 elements in 10 groups. Smoother and quicker AF USM.

They begot; 90-300 who begot 75-300 who begot 70-300 culminating into a foolish belief that the 70-300 II is worth 5x more than any of the others, it's good but not 5x better in IQ

The 100-300L on a 5DS R is a rare lens camera match combo, aka made in heaven match?

Beyond all the facts and opinions involving these lenses, their whole pedigree included? There is one huge big giant colossal factor missing..."the camera" The camera used matters almost as equally today as the lens does, this is not about film and it's about digital camera use

I believe bringing up Harley discussions is a tool used often by Supremist types to both gauge people and engage with them to start in with their political rhetoric, something no 1%er would be a part of or even care about.
There's a factory hog and then there's these built by their owners (two kinds).

Once I rode a Wing it was all over, the Wing is the Superior Road Bike of Road Bikes. If you like socializing and belonging to groups, going a few miles to a bar, then another, the Harley is great.

If you like riding, the Wing is made for that ...the being part of riding not belonging. A Valk is a Wing without dressing, "I rode a valk and wings" illogical. If you rode a Valk Interstate, you'd know first hand what too much load on a front fork means... The American made Valks had poor front springs, just remember to beef up the springs or in time you'll discover this shortcoming too, and I hope you survive it is all. A Japanese built Wing, is the smoothest big machine on the road, I'd probably fall asleep riding like my wife does if I wasn't smiling like the Joker all the time riding it, sitting on both hands to keep from waving to everyone I see because I'm so happy?

(please do not sense or create a tone in my words above, there is none)
