In Vermont over the weekend. It was a longer weekend than planned as the result of well-over a foot of snow that ended on Wednesday night. There is overhead electric lighting only over the altar. The rest of the light depends on skylights that run the length of the church, a few tall narrow stained glass windows in the front and back, and lights in each choir stall. The lights in the stalls are only turned on when necessary.
This was the first time I pushed the ISO above 2500 (first two). First shot with a 25 mm f 1.4 prime the other two with 12-40 mm 2.8.
Monk at lectern. Only light was the four candles and a small handheld light to illuminate the text. No light from the skylights as it was completely dark outside. ISO 8000 0.5 sec f 1.4 25 mm

Monks kneeling at foot of altar. Light over altar was on. Skylights almost completely obscured by 15 inches snow. ISO 10000, 1/100, f 2.8 31 mm. Cropped

Reflection in the door to the church. Fascinating distortion. ISO 1000, 1/6 sec f 2.8 40 mm. Minimal crop

Cool shots.
Thanks for commenting. They were very cool shots. The church is barely heated. Was wearing four layers of shirt, sweatshirt, and polartec.
Very eye pleasing set. No.#1 is beautiful .
Fine set of images frjack. You must have had a very steady hand to get that first shot so sharp at 0.5 sec.
The warm colors of #1 give me a great sense of comfort and peace (I'm not religious), and #2 is hugely engaging for the light and shadows + the viewpoint. #3 is a fun find. Very enjoyable series!

Thank you for commenting. What looks like haze in the #1 is the incense that had just been used hanging in the air.

Fairly steady but the image stabilization in the Olympus EM1 mk ii is phenomenal. I've routinely taken 0.5 sec and even slower with good results.

The warm colors are strictly due to the light source and the warmth of the wood. I was told that the wood is bird's eye maple. Rarely has wood photographed so beautifully. There is a lot of incense smoke hanging in the air. Can't say enough about the EM1 mk ii. The I.S. is tremendous and has allowed me to get shots that would be impossible without it.

Great series, frjack
Thanks for commenting. The snow was not predicted when I drove up. What a surprise. Lemons? Make lemonade with the camera rather than stewing about the cancellations when I couldn't get back to Boston.
Hi Father Jack, These are really cool shots and the only insulated vestments I believe I have ever seen. Your explanation tells why they need them! Thanks.

Thanks for commenting. The habit is wool. The cowl is uniquely double hooded and very heavy. The hood serves an important function in a very cold church at night.
Really lovely set! Don’t you just love the Oly stabilization!

Thanks for commenting. The EM1 ii I.S. is astonishing. The photoswere only possible because of the I.S. and the silent shutter. The community had no idea that I was shooting.
