Years ago when I bought my first Nikon it was a D100 the salesman recommended that I buy FX lens instead of the DX for the D100. Back then the FX lens still had the manual aperture on them. I lucked out with that advise to my benefit over the years. My next camera was D2x then the D3 onto the D4 then the D5 and now the D850. I use the D5 for low light and sports and D850 for all other shoots.

I made the switch about 2 years ago. I bought a d700 and a couple of lenses off ebay...the 28-80mm and a 70-300. I love the d700 even though it is not the most up to date Nikon. It is as solid as a rock. The two lenses cover the vast majority of situations. Sell the dx and jump in. You won't regret it....and the older Nikon lenses I bought are very good. I'll try to attach a photo I shot the other day.
