I've had some unexpected good luck with scenes at old cemeteries in Mass. Particularly those that occupy hillsides and are now overgrown with trees.

With the Fall leaves, should I invest in an Enhancing Filter or use Vivid on some shots with my Canon G-11?

Maine is beautiful in the fall. The more north you go the more vibrant the colors. Your window of time for peak foliage is right around the first 2 weeks of October. I recommend the coast line up by Bar Harbor and Acadia national park. Also western Maine in the mountains, that's where I go. Pick up the Maine Gazateer, it's the DeLorme maps of Maine. Head for Fryeburg and North, you won't go wrong.

Oh, set your camera to Velvia simulation for your best vivid colors. Enjoy.

You're tour is taking you to a lot of nice places! Do you want the forest or the tree? Be sure to take photos of both! My favorite fall photo (I'm from Manchester, Connecticut) is of the fall colors reflected in a rippling local pond. You can't tell they're trees, but the shimmering colors are an artistic statement! It's entitled "Autumn in New England". Look for the "little" picture as well as the "big" picture.

My lil Point &Shoot...Canon G-11 does not have the luxury of a Velvia Simulation. Should I go Cloudy as someone suggested?

You will have a great time. Sounds like you've got it covered with your equipment. I'm going in November to Boston area and always enjoy shooting around Cambridge.

We will be touring with Country Travel Discoveries (Was World Wide Country Tours)Sept. 29 th Oct 7 than 4 days in the Boston area and 5 days in and around Clinton Jew Jersey searching family history around Oldwick NJ. Plan to stop at West Point and go to Ellis Island and Statue of Liberty.
World Wide was great we went with them 6 times including "Mistery Tours" to Pittsburg and DC. Just purchased clear, ND, and polorizing filters for the lenses I am taking. Again thank you all for the advice.

I think a couple of filters would be something you should think of taking - a polarizing filter and a color enhancing filter.

Southwest lower Maine around Barr Mills, Salmon Falls, Hollis Center. Magnificent. Plenty of winding country roads with good pavement. You'll need to wear sunglasses to endure the unlimited range of bright colors!

The Atlantic Coast is rocky with a lack of fall colors that reside inland but features lighthouses and other quaint scenes to shoot. Personally, for one of my 3 visits I flew into Portland Maine, rented a car for 10 days, and stayed in a furnished cabin with no TV instead of hotels and motels. There are also plentiful Bed & Breakfasts all over the place in New England if you aren't taking kids.

Take along a circular polarizing filter to dramatically increase the depth of blue skies and increase contrast to colorful leaves you're looking up into on trees.

And take a jacket with a zip-in lining for versatility in mediocre cool to harshly cool days. You're not accustomed to the brisk and crisp air of New England and Atlantic breezes! Or just buy one at L.L. Bean while you're in the region.

I've been there 3 times and regretted having to leave every time, wishing I could move there permanently - at least until I remembered the big snow and cold temps they get in the winter.

Look out for two Louisiana couples that will be in the area Sept. 27- Oct. 5. Flying to Boston and renting a car. First part of trip will be around the Boston area- Plymouth, Woods Hole, New Bedford. Heading north to check out the light houses in Maine then making the trip to North Conway (doing the scenic railroad and Hwy 112). Will travel to Vermont to visit the Shelburne Museum and check out some wineries before heading back to Boston. Packing my D3200 with the 18-105 lens. Would love to hear from those that have recommendations for sites to see and places to eat. (Us Louisianians love to eat!) I am also sure we will be stopping at every quilt shop in the area. Looking forward to photo opts!!

Check foliage maps and websites daily before the trip. There are many New England areas where there is NO peak foliage between those dates. Many places have peak foliage starting around October 15. Summer rainfall is a foliage game changer for fall colors.
