Just curious, you say you ran to the beach and wish the gull would turn 180 to see it from other side. That part I get, yet I see land in the background in a few shots, is that not the beach where you could be standing to get what you wanted? :)
The sand that you see in the background is actually a sandbar that forms (comes and goes with the tides) the edge of a marsh which is protected. The water in the photograph is part of a channel that connects the open Atlantic to the inner salt ponds and marshes. A very beautiful area. We have to take what we are given in this area.
