Priority delivery package (signature required) left on a recycling container on the street in the rain between 7 and 9PM hundreds of feet from our house (presumably because the driver didn’t want to take the time to walk or drive to our door). Would have been stolen or stayed there all night in the rain except for the fact it was spotted by my son leaving the house at 9PM.
Forewarned is forearmed - if your shipment is important to you, instruct that it be held at a pickup center or UPS store and pick it up from there. Since most shipments (but not all) are FOB origin, if it had been ruined or stolen, it would have been my responsibility to file a claim with UPS and deal with this. I guess I should be thankful that it was placed in a plastic bag...

I request FedEx when I am given the choice. UPS has caused me nothing but misery.

I live out in the country, nearest town is 20 miles away. I've never had a problem with UPS. The driver on my route takes great effort in delivering any packages to my home. Always out of sight of passersby and out of the weather. This can't be said of the FedEx driver or USPS, though FedEx is probably the worst. Moral of the story take the time to talk to your delivery people and develop a relationship and you will see an improvement in services. FedEx is getting better!

I’m with you. We have a great mail delivery guy who I know well (and I remember every Christmas), but there’s no continuity in Raleigh with UPS (or FedX) delivery personnel, so no opportunity to develop a relationship, even though we’ve lived at the same address for decades. Some delivery guys are great, and some apparently not so much.
You have had a bad experience with UPS so everyone at UHH is supposed to shun them!? You have told only a part of the story, the bad part. I have absolutely no problem with you turning your back on UPS, it's your right to do so. But I know few of the facts, only what you shared. Was there a reason for why the UPS delivery person delivered your package in this manner? Are there circumstances were UPS will drop off a signature required delivery without the required signature?
I've personally never had the slightest problem with UPS, ever. But we live in different parts of the country and UPS may do things differently around here. I certainly hope you have better luck with future deliveries.

Great advice but from personal experience getting UPS to allow pickup or change delivery is tougher than voting in NY!
I always use FedX whenever possible including having dropped some vendors that won’t comply with my request.
There's a rumor that FedEx and UPS are going to merge. The new company will be called "FedUp".
I have had only one problem with UPS out of many deliveries. That time a package of frozen meats was left at the end of my somewhat long driveway. Somebody in passing told me it was there. Most often things are left in a covered shed nearer the house. Even better,Fed Ex leaves items on my porch.

Agreed. Hopefully only a very few of the latter.

If your package was from Amazon check the shipping label, if it does not say UPS on the label it was delivered by Amazons own delivery service. We have not had any good experiences with these people.
We too have had horrible service from UPS.
#1_ I ordered electronic equipment and it was left at my front door with the doormat on top of it... just so no-one would see It!
#2_ Camera equipment was ordered and left on bush in front of the house. The delivery note said, Delivered in person???
#3_ "Unable to deliver, no one home"... NOT TRUE. When I called UPS said it was lost???

UPS left a $3000 camera package, signature required, on my front porch. When I checked the tracking for the package, it showed that it was signed for.

That is interesting, because I feel both are increasingly poor, but FedEx is worse, in my experience. Perhaps it depends upon location.
