An excellent and moving post, angler. And a wonderful tribute to your grandfather. It is so important to remember.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.
If you wish feel free to add your lost family hero's name.
My Grandfather

An excellent tribute. An unnecessary war, fought over nothing, solving nothing, and setting up an even worse one, complete with criminally bad leadership and millions of wasted lives, including your grandfather's.

Thank goodness our leaders today are much smarter. *cough cough*

I lost an Uncle in WWll at Tunisia, North Africa. My mother, his sister never really got over it. If Montgomery's name was ever mentioned at home you could expect a tirade of abuse towards Monty, as she blamed him for the loss of her brother.

I have often wondered if all SENIOR officers had to lead from the front instead of the rear what the outcome would have been. I suspect that many, many lives would not have been wasted.

MY father, William Henry Ellwood, an Australian, fought at Gallipoli, but was not a casualty. Gallipoli is well remembered in Australia.

A moving tribute, but did you mean 10 August 1915, not 2015?
My cousin was a radio operator on a B-17 shot down over Germany. He survived and spent a few years in Stalag 4. My uncle was wounded in Germany near the end of the war. He was only 19 at that time. Lived to be about 80.
