Anybody know what the foot length is for the tripod collar on the Nikon 200-500 lens? I don't think it is ARCA type (I wish it was), so need a plate for the mount. I have this lens rented for end of the week and am thinking about how to mount to the tripod quick-release when it gets here. Thanks!

Its only a couple inches long and not compatible with any QR. You need a plate. For Arca style I recommend a 4" plate to allow for balance movement, especially if using it in a gimbal head.

I just measured my 200-500. It is 3 inches. You are correct it is NOT ARCA. I bought a 3 inch arch swiss plate for it.

Thanks, MT & Stan... I'll see if I have or need to get a 4" plate. 👍🤓👍

LOL! I'd better select my words more carefully! I didn't see that until you pointed it out. Thanks.

I prefer to replace the OEM foot with an Arca Swiss foot. There are many versions available.

I think I'll do that, if I end up buying it. This is a rental for me to try out. Thanks.

If it doesn't fit what you have, see if the rental company has what you need. I know I changed mine out a while ago but don't recall what I bought, if I had to guess. Either from RRS or it's an Arca Swiss. It was more for length in order to balance the lens and a D5 on a Wimberly Gimbal head.

A 4" plate will provide more versatility for balancing and also be a good handle for carrying.

Right! My first thought about foot length was, "12".

I'd suggest something in the middle-maybe a 300 foot plate...
