??...No, they do not have a mirror and do not let you see through the lens!

Actually, you are actively seeing through the lens! The image you see comes from the imaging sensor, and, of course, the sensor gets its image “through the lens”!

Seems you are a member of the choir - below are my posts from page 1 and page 2.

1. Not only do they see through the lens, the view will be 100% - more accurate than most DSLRs. AND live view in the EVF. AND will adjust to your exposure settings.

2. Rubbage - you are talking about OPTICAL viewfinders, and also TLR cameras, which I grant you, were also mirrorless

A DSLR in Live View is mirrorless. Same light path and process. The mirror is flipped up out of the way so it is out of the light path. The DSLR live view will show on the screen the same thing you see on a " mirrorless" camera.

Yes - but you only see it on the monitor - not in the viewfinder. I gather that most serious photographers prefer to use their OVF / EVF

Actually, mirrorless is MORE wysiwyg than a DSLR. The mirrorless shows you what the sensor sees and will record based on your settings. DSLRs do not.

DSLR's do not record based on their settings????????? They can also just record what the sensor "sees"!!!

But you cannot see it through the optical viewfinder, ever. Live view, yes, but many of us find dSLR live view to be useless or impractical.

The EVF has many uses. Some are unique.

TLR viewfinders have mirrors...

Of course... I had a Yashica Mat 124G. It had a fixed mirror and a screen you had to view backwards. Later, I got a Bronica ETRSi, which is an SLR with a prism finder/meter. It has a floppy mirror, and can have a ground glass viewfinder, with magnifier, or the prism head. Both of those cameras seem entirely clunky to me now.
