I am headed from Long Island to Reading, Vermont in the next week or so. Any suggestions of what to see along the way or when we get there?
Thanks so much,

Wide open question - hard to answer. Beautiful country up there. Several wildlife management areas, Long Trail and Harpoon breweries, King Arthur Flour, Rt 100. If you go up the Taconic, you can cross over on Rt 23 and take Rt 7 and go through quaint Bennington, and visit the Blue Benn diner - an original pullman car diner complete with jukeboxes and breakfast all day. If you go up through Hutchinson-Merritt-Wilbur Cross - I91 you'll go through Brattleboro. Nearby you'll find the Wantastiquet Mt Natural Area, Madame Sherri Forest, grab some great food in downtown Brattleboro or at the Chelsea Royal Diner in West Brattleboro, visit the organ museum (musical, not anatomical), etc. Check out the covered bridge at Guilford (Green River Bridge, just south of Brattleboro), and the Best's and Bowers covered bridges in West Windsor, near Ascutney and Reading. This is a great time to go - but don't wait too long. Foliage is already at mid change, and will peak by this weekend.

Consider the Jenne Farm in Reading. Located in Reading, Vermont, Jenne Farm is reputed to be New England's and perhaps even North America's most photographed farm.
What makes this somewhat remarkable is that this private farm, located on a dirt road, isn't exactly heavily promoted or on a well-traveled route. Woodstock is another great area for photo opportunities.
From Woodstock, the farm is about a 15-minute drive. You'll want to keep your eyes out for Jenne Road on the right-hand side. GPS users can enter 1264 Jenne Road, Reading, VT, as the destination address.Enjoy the color and scenery.

Since VT is so narrow at that end, Lake Bomoseen directly west of Reading is absolutely beautiful, especially with Fall color.
Route 4 through Queechee and Woodstock, anywhere along Route 7 or Route 100. If you go up 91, get off in Bellows Falls and just take Route 5 along the Connecticut River. Or cross the bridge at 89 and follow NH 12 North for a while. Kind of doesn't matter where you go up there, lots of wildlife, history, covered bridges, mountain vistas, foliage etc.
If you go up 87, follow 149 through Fort Ann to Route 4 in Whitehall and then just cut north along the NY side of Champlain and cross over on the ferry at least as far as Ticonderoga if not further up. Again won't matter how you meander over to Reading although if you do go that way, definitely make it to the Shelburne museum, you won't be disappointed.
If you happen to go through Massachusettes on the way, check out a little town named Turners Falls. Its quite scenic.

Don't miss Mary's restaurant in Bristol, between Burlington and Middlebury. Of the best on The East Coast.

If you go up through western Connecticut and western Massachusetts on route 7 hope west at Pittsfield on route 20 to the Hancock Shaker Village. A great place to visit.

I second the Jenne Farm. Link to info:
http://www.scenesofvermont.com/jennyfarm/jenne.htmI've spent hours in shoulder deep snow waiting for sunrise making photos of this place. For a gratuity, they will turn on lights for you to lend a better view of the farm. (at least they used to do that) It takes a little work to get to the best place to make the photo, but it is worth it.
Thanks so much for all the great suggestions. I have been to Jenne farm before and of course will go there again.
